Rash winter purchase?

Yeah, and look at the tigers fuel consumption...guys on that forum are talking around 38mpg...i get 54 regularly on my gs1200, with panniers 2 up! That alone puts me off a tiger and the over sensitive throttle they discuss. That may have had a s ware update but models I rode were shifty..good luck

Birdseye: I believe the 990s, particularly the early ones, suffered from poor FI. The 950 has old school carbs and is creamy smooth. I've never felt so attached to a bike.

Fluffmeister: You are probably right. Perhaps I'll give it it try before doing anything. Hard to justify two bikes anyway.

Even though I love my GS, I know who's having the most fun up on kyffhauser when with my mate Rod on his 950 SM and me on the GS. Cheeky bast.... want's me to load some of his luggage on mine for next year though :-)

He made a tidy little fly screen for the 950 which small as it is cut's down a lot of buffeting when cruising.

You can always tag along with us next May bank holiday, there's My GS a 950SM, 990SMR, a Firestorm, a GSA and 990SMT heading out.

op could always try a honda cbf1000, decent screen and easy to manage bike. i tried one but in the end went for a 09 gs purely on leg room.

Last bike was a 950 sm it was a blast down the back lanes but the 1200gsa feels more planted and more like a twin, and once use to it, faster on the bumpy road surfaces than the sm even with its WP and bimbos, IMHO.

Ride/bike recent review of adventure bikes again, GS still on top :)

I love the look of the multistrada but there's all that business of having to take the bike to a garage to have the chain adjusted!? Is that still the case?

I also agree good to avoid the first iteration of the bike, especially as revamped engine parts might go tits up!

I love my 2011 GSA :)

That's a very kind offer Fluffmeister and one I might take you up on. Unfortunately none of my mates are bikers (well one is, but he's not allowed to ride on the road and is restricted to parading his Manx Norton and TZ750), which leaves me having to ride on me tod.
