Re Keying Panniers

Andy

Sorry I can't help. The panniers and top boX all came key coded by the dealer (Rainbow) when I bought the bike.

I know that Jefferies used to charge about £10 to key code the 1150 panniers or RT top box.

I know this is bringing up old posts, but,

Am i reading this right that 1150 gsa panniers cannot be rekeyed ????

Also if i buy paniers without a key how do i get the barrells out to renew them without the original key ???... Or is it best to ask the seller to remove the barrels for me ???

Cheers in advance...

Dave.

The great guys on the parts desk at Southport BMW did my panniers and topbox for free:thumb2.
Just included the required bribe of a packet of plain choccy biccies in the topbox:clap

My 1200 has Vario panniers.. (bought from this fine site).
I took the barrels out after reading the "how to" on here.
Then took the barrels to BMW Battersea, who sorted them to match my key.... FREE OF CHARGE, and even made me a coffee while I waited.

Is it possible to extract the barrel without the key. Checked the site but it looks like the tab is depressed with the lock turned. Any ideas?

Bahnstormer (Hants) did the same for me :thumb2, no choccy bix, but I had spent gobs of my hard earned with them.

Thanks.

I have just rekeyed my panniers without the initial key (but my panniers were unlocked fortunately). Pic guide worked the treat. Super easy. First pannier slow as not wanting to break anything. Second pannier less than a minute.

Davey m,

It's really easy to do yourself, I did mine first one took 10 minutes the second 5 minutes.

Hope it's of some help to you

Thanks for all the info.

I managed to change the barrels, replaced through Motorworks.

Drilled out and then rekeyed no problem, just fiddly.

If you buy panniers without keys them make sure they are unlocked.

Unless you are bored and value 'new experiences' that is.

Cheers again:thumb2

I seem to remember that even if they are locked it is quite simple to remove lock barrels from both system panniers and 1150 adv ali panniers (not tried 1200s) Drilling out seems rather radical.

Would like to know how to do it, I have a locked system pannier with no key.

Other thing to note, if you are rekeying the locks on system panniers... there are eight wafer slots, counting from the key entry end the eighth slot is for the locking wafer. The seventh slot should be left empty, if you put a wafer in it, although it may appear to be flush, when you fit the lock the key will jam in the lock. Not sure of the reason for this, but lots of messing around with a system pannier this afternoon proved the point.
