Rear pad wear

In my experience copper grease has never caused any problems with brakes - BUT you shouldn't put it where it might contaminate the caliper seals. Just on the back of the brake pads really. If you must grease the pistons, use special rubber-safe grease (caliper rebuild kits come with a sachet of this usually).

Just back from my evening class of Motorcycle Maintenance at the local Tech where our instructor (a well known BMW techie) implored us not to put Copperslip anywhere near brakes as heat build up causes it to rapidly dry out leaving a residue that causes all sorts of problems with pads/calipers - he says it does the complete opposite of what we hope it will do

Yes I have been thinking about this problem over the past few days and came to the same conclusion. In future I shall try using a high melting point, waterproof grease.

If rear brake pad wear bothers you, replace your rear disc with a solid rotor (no holes) When i was using my Gs off road during winter months i think i was lucky to get 500 miles out of a pair of pads! For some reason the fronts dont seem to suffer. Mark.

Possibly related to the amount of dirt that ends up all over the rear wheel, and the rear pads are a bit softer anyway (the BMW organic ones anyway).
