For 2 up and/or loads o' luggage, you might want to strengthen the beefy bits...

its a good idea, i seen a few cracked, all long haulers tho,jap stuff does this too

That weld looks shite to me ...... no penetration on the tube side ...

Good idea though .... :thumb2

Nothing wrong with the welds or plate positioning - this is how they do it. In terms of support strength there shouldn't be difference whether to position the plate into centre of the pipe or into corner (not fully on the side tho!). Welds will "bite" the plate into the surface and overall strength is much improved.

Even HPN does the same way:

And asks LOADS 'o pounds for the job. :)

Yep, for two up or full of luggage + third-world conditions, essential. :thumb

Going solo and very light, then not essential.

Dont get me wrong Bro. I`m not being negative for the sake of it I think this is a sound thing to do. It`s just that the welding could have been better. I refer to the undercutting in the new metal and the lack of penetration in the parent steel. I would have been looking for the filler to sit better that's all.

No worries for me Mr.Digger .......... Not my Bike.

Don`t think your remark is pertinent however as we are not talking about Suzukis. We are discussing the improvements Margus is making to his frame ...
