Has anyone had a rear suspension unit failure?. Tried to adjust the damping for the first time today and found the adjuster screw reluctant to move. When it did move it span and span and span with no sign of an end stop. Phoned the dealer who supplied the bike and they said "seems to have failed so we'll order you a new one. The bike's still under warranty". They reckoned not to have seen this before.

The same thing happened on 1100GS, i got a credit and bought an Ohlins instead.

I have a spare WP shock for the R1200GS, excellent condition, taken off to fit Ohlins. Kept it when the bike went, Less than 5,000 miles, Spare anyone?

Long shot this given the timespan in posting :)

Do you still have the spare? Looking for a rear shock to fit my 1200gs following the damping screw adjuster failing on mine :(

This happened to me last weekend. :blast The bike is out of warranty though, but I may ask the local dealer if they can help somehow. Particularly if this is not uncommon.

Buying an after market shock is not really an option until next year!

Seems like this is not an uncommon problem - I suppose with the shock adjusting screw being almost in direct line of spray from the rear wheel the fact that they seize and then 'let go' once someone tries to turn them is not surprising. Let us know how you get on with dealer. Think I'll also have a word with mine but as it is an 04 with 30000 miles I'm not holding my breath.
