QUOTE...from my manual..

If the rear wheel drive is filled with oil , dont place the unit on the side prior to installation. this will cause oil to leak wen ridden later (suction effect)

QUESTION..

Which end will the oil leak from ..wheel side end , or gearbox end..?

and whats this suction affect, n how do i cure it?

thanks ugg.

I might be wrong... (I always say that)

but filling the rear drive with oil on the side-stand is naughty... you will over-fill it.

You do it on the level... bike raised up onto the mainstand.. and everythings peachy.

are you saying you deliberately want to overfill - and avoid the consequences??

what on earth for?

he,s saying what it says in manual, he wants to know were it will leak from, what is the suction effect?

Fill it with oil then put a small pipe into the oil.Take a big breath and suck the end of the pipe your soon find out what a suction effect is. Or ask your cousin who helped you fo the Gbox change :D

I'd expect it to leak via the breather on the top of the FD unit...

so why is the suction affect apparent wen the FD is tilted over when its off the bike in a dismantled state?

what is difference in the operation of a FD thats tilted over, to a FD thats has been kept upright?

ugg.

having the bike tilted over probably means you can get more oil into the bevel box, and reduce the air gap that is present.

now oil doesn't get squished as easily as air, and as a consequence will look for the nearest exit to relieve the pressure that is accumulating, caused through the rotation of the gears (remeber the most primitive oil pumps are just 2 gears meshing together).

so the air gap is probably as crucial as having the oil in, as it allows a cushion effect when the parts are moving...

i might have this right, or i might have made a huge fekc up...i've just got back from the pub <hic>

makes sense now...:thumb

bit like a fart seeks the nearest exit due to pressure built up caused by the bowels churning ,re: (the two gears method used on a manual pump) oil has to go some wear,...but less smelly....:D

ugg

not always true, iv heard a lot of farts outa your mouth too, ,,
:blastsorry,,, not farts,,,,i meant crap:D
