rear wheel outta true

i noticed tonight while my 57 pate gsa was on its main stand that the rear wheel is so far out of true its unreal . the disc is also pushing the floating brake caliper apart as it turns wtf . any ideas ive only had it since saturday

Did you buy it from a dealer? If so demand they sort it out. Hope you get it sorted, I know how disappointed you must feel.

Check for foreign body trapped between wheel and hub.

Are you sure there's no grit or rubbish sandwiched between the wheel and hub?

Take the wheel off and have a look behind it to make sure the surfaces are clean. There's not much else it can be if you're still riding it.

Ive done that . Had the wheel off and cleaned it etc . The disc is doin the same thing as the wheel . There both bolted to the hub carrier that sits on the output shaft of the final drive.i can only assume its the carrier thats not true and straight . After looking around it seems it was a problem in 07 and 08 bikes . I am really pissed off. I do like the bike and i will get it sorted out . Just wish they wasnt made outta cheese

I've had some experience of a similar issue recently. The official BMW tolerance on the GSA wire wheels is 1.7mm both laterally and vertically.

Is there any play in the wheel at all. Grab the top and bottom of the wheel and try to move it.

Can you push the wheel upright when the bike is on the stand?

Sounds like your Wheel/disk carrier is either bent or out of line some how. How long have you had the bike and can you say it was OK last time you looked?

It could be that your FD bearing is breaking down. If you hold the wheel/tyre from the nearside (left). One hand top one hand bottom. Then pull/push to check for play. Any play should be checked out. Riding the bike would be seriously iffy untill you have sorted the problem.

Definately need to find where the movement is. If it wobbles when pushed and pulled on the mainstand then, as stated, it's either some seriously shot crownwheel bearings or a seriously shot set of splines on the hub carrier. If they have badly worn then the only thing holding the wheel on is a circlip...

The allowed tolerance at the wheel rim is a complete cop-out in my opinion. Many bikes have zero movement and more than that just seems to me to be indicative of sloppy QC.

if the disc's wobbling, it's unlikely to be a wheel problem.

ok theres no movement at all when the bikes on main stand grabbing the wheel top and bottom and side to side no play in the wheel . ive done a search on here and the general thing seems to be the rear wheel/disc carrier . theres no movement on the splines at all and the bikes a minter only covered 6000 miles . so do i change the carrier or what . if theres no movement at the wheel and alls tight it cant be the bearings can it . im taking it to a local motorcycle mechanic whose got 30 years bmw experiance on saturday so il see what he says

I've had that fault, no play in the wheel at any position, but whole of rear hub assembly was changed, was probably due to poor QA as someone has stated. Was repaired under warranty.

It would do that if the alloy hub carrier had been machined out of true with its axis. I'd be surprised if the hub (by which I mean the crownwheel/axle) was to blame.

Well its going to a bmw specialist in te morning to have a look but the more i think about it your right its gotta be the hub carrier . Or i happen to have a warped disc and an out of true wheel at the same time . Im gonna also swap over the disc then wheel with my mates as a process of elimination lol il let tou all know what he says tomorrow
