RECOMMEND ME A HEADLIGHT PROTECTOR

LoneRider or Cymarc

Are in my opinion the best, and that Amazon link looks like a knock off of the LoneRider option.
I know I’d rather pay a bit more for the protection of me led headlight than £34, but it’s your choice mate.

I've got the LoneRider option. It's well made and you've got options of how to style it; with either the clear perspex & the metal cover, or either individually. It's handy as it is hinged so you can get at the headlight to clean it.

Buy a one that is easily removed or hinged so you can clean behind it

I bought a LoneRider copy from Aliexpress for my 1200, it looks very much like the Amazon version (different shape for the LED of course) build quality seems OK, no instructions but a YouTube video for the LoneRider was a big help.

For the sake of £27 and a 2 week wait I'm happy, not sure how long it'll last but it looks ok.

Have a look at the folding wunderlich type on nippy normans. Not cheap but they are good quality and hinge so are very easy to clean. They are either clear or you can get mesh.

ive ordered one of these purely because of the price and availability of the headlight, they look factory fit rather than securicor van

Totally agree on the looks vs all of the others. Not convinced as yet on whether for riding on the road these lights are any more susceptible to damage than car lights. It would be interesting to know if anybody has damaged there's under 'normal' riding. I've always used quality ppf for protecting against scratches or glancing stone chips, with no issues to date, though that's not much of a sample size :-).

On the budget side of things and if not wanting to go down the mad max/Securicor route, I think the best alternative is the type deanOnO has linked to

In forty years of biking, I’ve never had a headlight smashed by a stone. However, in the last three years, I’ve had two of these broken. The first one I thought, great it has done its job. For the second one, the stone that broke it got caught between the Perspex cover and the headlight. It was surprising how small it was.
For now, I’ve reverted back to no cover, as I personally think these are a bit to fragile and will look for a more substantial one.

The LED headlight is far stronger than you'd think.

A few years ago I was punted off at 40mph, hitting (glancing blow) a car coming towards me doing a similar speed. The front end was ripped from the bike and the headlight away from the forks etc. The headlight lens had some deep gouges but did not break.

Has anyone had a LED light break from being hit by a stone?

Thats is the question....

Do we even need headlight protectors?

I bought one off Aliexpress 2 years ago.
its a mesh type and does not fold down, so is a pain to clean behind
its also showing signs of rust now, although my last coat of ACF50 darkened the rust so you cant see it :D

If i buy another i would just buy the Amazon one. (foldable this time)
what's the worst that can happen, it go rusty in a few years? just buy another or paint it.

I have the Cymarc one. Don't really know why I fitted it as I've not broken many headlights in my 40 years of riding. I think the Cymarc one would take a 12 bore from a short distance and the headlight would survive - it's substantial!
