@Rbcmmn why do you keep posting empty quotes ??

It’s like banging your head against a brick wall , I’m out ,

My advice? Bring the bike to someone who knows what they’re doing. JJH

As much as I enjoy sitting at the roadside awaiting recovery just to save myself £100 for an FPC that I may or may not need, I personally would rather spend the £100 on a new one to replace the corroded and suspect item (seeing as they are almost impossible to diagnose for intermittent faults) in the hope that I could then spend my day riding the bike again rather than be sat somewhere watching the traffic go by with a bike that doesn't run.

Perfect description and I think what I was actually trying to say above, but much more eloquently done, Puk Old Bean !!!

I don't get how folk buy a premium motorcycle then bitch about paying a few quid for spares during its lifetime to keep it running properly.

I've spent more on small kitchen appliances for fucks sake !

I am sure that we may actually be genetically linked somewhere along the passage of time!!!!

No need to sit helpless by the side of the road. You can bypass an FPC, the part needed takes up no room whatsoever.
All the early units look corroded, even those that run perfectly, and isn’t a sign that it’s going to fail. Same as the later incorroded items :D

was the FPC a part that let in water and was swapped on some bikes under a recall for early bikes

my june 2007 bike had something (circa 2009) - but it might just have been a relay - if so where's that thing sit ?

EDIT: umm sound like it was the controller... but BM usa don't call it this (see red below)

**Notice of Recall 09V-319**

Solution:
The fuel-pump electronics installed since October 2008 are of new design.
Black housing = new fuel-pump electronics: replacement is not necessary
Silver housing = old fuel-pump electronics: replacement is necessary

In order to ensure a 100% seal after replacement, the sealing area around the fuel-pump electronics (between fuel-pump electronics and fuel-pump flange) must be sprayed with a protective-wax spray i.e Wurth Protective Wax, (see arrows in the illustration below).

Finishing work:
16 002 09 (037)R

Defect code: 00 00 16 36 00 Replacement of the fuel-pump electronics
FRU code: 00 60 187 Inspect and if necessary replace "fuel-pump electronics", 5 FRUs
Part number: 16 14 7 720 776 Fuel-pump electronics including seal and 2 screws

So 4 iterations of the controller used over the years - and the current part isn't even the one used once upon a time Sept 2009 for the recall (due to filling with water)
The fuel-pump electronics installed since October 2008 were of new design and shouldn't have the ingress issue.

these all suggest they use the same controller now

My 2004 GS left me stranded just outside Bumfucksville, Western Australia on a country road somewhere. Luckily for me the local hillbillies didn't hog tie and rape me.

FPC failure, got recovered after a five hour wait by a mate with his dirt bike trailer, got home and hot wired the fuel pump, bike fired straight up.

Got raped financially by the one and only BMW agent in WA for a new part but such is life when you live in Hicksville, WA.

Made an FPC bypass cable after cutting the plug off the old FPC. Never needed to use it.

It the rule of nature, the universe.

The part you’re carrying a spare or “workaround” for will never fail.
Apart from the one time you leave it at home .,

Like the one time my 1250 wouldn’t start and I’d put my Noco GB40 in the wife’s car. :blast

Hello
apologies for very late reply, but been moving house. Bike still has same issue as broke down again. Ran GS911. Which gave the following report: -
Fault Codes : 1

Fault Code Value : 10168(0x27B8)
Fault Code Description : Electric Fuel Pump System faulty
Currently present : YES
Symptom : Unknown Symptom
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) : NO
Frequency count : 1
Logistic (Healing) count : 40
Fault Code History :
Record number : 0
Odometer : 52152.9 mi
Fuel pump voltage : 8.85 V
Fuel pressure : 2 mBar
Engine RPM : 0 rpm
Throttle valve angle relative to throttle valve stop : 0.00 %

Does this mean the Fuel pump needs replacing?

Will you do the bypas. That will tell you. I’m sure someone more knowledgeable than me will understand the figures better than me but I’m a bit old fashioned. The bypas is a free mod that will definitely tell you what we already know. JJH

at risk of being shouted at - FPC bypass sounds all techy and complex...

the bike has some mad wiring and a silly module designed to fail (called the fuel pump controller - AKA FPC) - it stupid job is to allegedly make the fuel pump work less hard at certain points - how this doesn't negatively impact the bikes fueling I don't know - coz if you play with available fuel pressure it should impact how much comes out of an injector... what happens is at lower revs the pump is told to spin slower and at higher engine speeds it revs up the fuel pump - so when the FPC dies the pump stops... bypassing means taking the FPC out of the electrical loop and putting battery volts direct to the fuel pump - there's some fly lead I should buy - and we should all have one with our tool kit and know which bits to connect up

At least you know how to use the quote function :D
Total idiot. It why people join these forums and immediately leave as they’re full of total and utter imbeciles like you. When jobs BMW riders ask for advice they got nothing but sarcasm. Good bye IDIOT.

So many people tried to help you. The old saying you can take a horse to water but you can’t make it drink. You have been offered help by possibly the most professional people with a wealth of knowledge and experience given freely. I don’t know what you want from this forum but it’s obviously not the place for you. I don’t include myself as a professional just a fairly accurate tyre kicker. JJH
