"Red TFT of death" issue

I had this on my 1300gsa asa and there IS a software update that fixes this.

When it first happened the bike was rideable but I had no aux power, indicators, speedo.

Off/on didn’t fix it but disconnected battery did. I then put a gs911 on it and it lit up like a Christmas tree with loads of errors.

Dealer took the bike in, updated the software to the latest version, cleared the errors then did a long test ride. No errors.

And no problem since. Mine happened at the start of March. 2000 miles since then.

all vehicles drain power all the time when connected and still switched off (alarms, nasty electronic switching, modern canbus insanity etc.) - if you ever connect a fly lead to charge the battery NEVER connect directly to plus & minus on the battery

the earth should go to a separate frame earth - this give the electrics a chance to determine the natural constant drain and the charger better copes feeding what the bike needs and not an instantaneous direct to battery fake voltage reading
Why would you want to introduce extra connections and resistance in your charging circuit?
What “electrics” are determining the drain, and what do they do about it?
What’s fake about the battery voltage reading?

May I ask how you’ve come to this conclusion?
Because in my mind it’s plainly wrong. People like BMW etc wouldn’t knowingly design systems such as canbus and charging through the charging port if it wasn’t the right way to do it.

on the R1300 with a lithium battery they bought back a third linbus connector specifically to help the bike cope

re not using the battery terminal, go ask any real electronics expert - its still not the best way - modern vehicles mostly now have a separate remote positive connection away from the battery to add power support - check the handbook on most 15 year old or newer cars, full of electronics

its what the battery in that instant thought was happening - rather then the actual persistent drain the bike is taking from the battery
