Regret trading up to a 1200 from an 1100/1150?

Hi Folks

Just wanted to hear some views on people that regret trading up to a 1200 from an 1100/1150, seems to be a few out there and want some thoughts

Hi Mark,

First GS was an 1150, then I got an 1100, then an 1150 ADV.

In March this year got a 54 plate 1200- did all I asked of it on a 3000 mile euro trip in July, but it just didn't 'excite' me :(
Now got another 1150 ADV and I'm happy again:thumb
 
ok thats understandable, interesting to know there is people trading back for that reason, not the "its less reliable" reason

EXCITE!! when on earth did a BMW excite anyone??
 
Went from an 1150 to a 1200, both excellent bikes, the advantage of the 1200 is the lower weight making it easier for my short legs to manage. The engine is smoother as well, and it is more comfortable as standard.
 
1200-1100

I bought an 1100 a few months back as a winter bike and have used every day since. Great fun to ride and following a few mods- braided hoses and bar risers, it is now absolutely perfect. I'm seriously considering selling the 1200GSA now as it's hardly turned a wheel recently.
 
Had all manner of GS's

Airhead GS's/100PD/ 3 x 1100GS/3 x 1150GS's/1150GS Adv

Had a 2008 1200GSA last year with all the gizmos ESA/TCS/ABS and again it didn't do anything for me - very bland and too sanitised:D

So glad I kept the 1150GS Adv and didn't sell it to fund the 12GSA and recently I've bought another 1100GS - can't beat oilhead GS's:thumb
 
I've done hundreds of thousands of miles on GS's from 1100's to a 1200.

If you enjoy chucking bikes about the lighter, faster turning, better handling and more powerful 1200 will be a noticable improvement over the 11xx's

If you ride sensibly, obey the speed limits and are happy to plod along enjoying the scenery, there's little to gain from moving to a 1200. Indeed the loss of the tall top gear is a real niggle.

In terms of reliability my personal experience is that there's little to choose. All of my bikes have had significant problems: gearbox on the 1100, final drive and burnt exhaust valve on the 1150's, final drive FPC on the 1200 - but all had done 50,000 miles before the problems. Despite what many report the 1200 is very smooth when run in and set up properly. All my bikes went though at least 3 winters with daily use with little corrosion compared to jap stuff.

Bottom line is get a long test ride and see what you think yourself
 
I had an 02 1150gs for a couple of years which was ok a nice bike and all that but swapped it this year for an 09 1200gs and oh boy what a difference lighter faster simply a whole lot better in my view :thumb

it's only money :D
 
Just replaced my 1150GS after writing it off, with 06 1200GS ADV well pleased with the new bike bike I miss the grunt of the 1150 otherwise
the new bike more comfortable and quicker.
