Regret trading up to a 1200 from an 1100/1150?

Had 2 1150 GSA's then 2 1200 GSA's now a 1200SE.the 12's for me are better bikes in everyway ,and the SE does everything I want from a GS ,I would not now go back to an 1150,heavy and had possibly expensive servo issues

All good comments...I've just spoken to so many ppl regarding this issue, alot of ppl tell me they feel that the 1200's are nowhere near as reliable as the old 1150/1100's, not in my opinion, yes, they do have there downsides but most of them were all aware of, therefore you can resolve the issue before they keep you on the side of the road

I just wanted to see if ppl were trading back for any other reason, and now I know that some of you are

Thought long and hard about swapping my 1150gsa.
In the end i bought a new 1200 with dynamic and premium packs.
Only done 1000mls, but i'm loving the bike and so far have absolutley no regrets.
As a pillion Joanne also much prefers the 1200.

When I was looking I rode 1200GS 1200ADV and 800GS. The most fun and 'exciting' bike out of the lot was the 800GS which I was a little bit disappointed in, as I soooooo wanted a 1200!!!!

But then I had a go on a HP2 E....... it the most fun I have had on a bike.... I have done everything on it Track days, tours and offroad.

So if you want an 'exciting' GS get a HP2 e.....

Mate of mine just clocked over 100k miles on his 05' 1200GS. He had final drive bearing replaced and regular services + loads of tyres nothing else

My HP2 is on near 28k in just over two years and thus far only had the forks sorted which is a known weak point.

I think there is more reliable BMW's out there running free than those giving trouble. People just don't post details about how relaible their bikes are only rant when something goes wrong hence the perception that they are not reliable

I had the 100 - then 1100 and now 1200 in the form of the HP2. They are all different bikes and the 1200 motor is miles ahead in terms of smoothness and power compared to the older oilheads. Nothing wrong with the 1150 or 1100 either just a matter of what floats your boat

my hp2 is not reliable at all only had it just over a year, bought it second hand with 6k on the clock and had new shock, on second side stand switch which is a known weak point and am waiting for the new bmw up graded bracket and a few weeks ago it had a valve to piston interface..... so needed a complete new pot and everything that goes with it...

But still the most fun I have had on a bike....

Just wanted to hear some views on people that regret trading up to a 1200 from an 1100/1150, seems to be a few out there and want some thoughts

Interestingly, I came to my 1200ADV from another direction, namely a K1200RS but have had R80ST and RT's, 100/5/7, 90S and a heap of sporty Guzzi's

The 1200ADV doesn't go chug chug like an R80, but equally doesn't go whizz whizz like the K or have the performance. There again it's not as heavy as an 1150 ADV. It's just different and every bit as good. The trade off for me is the lack(?) of mass against the increase in electronic complexity. I wanted a sit up and beg tourer to go with the bum up head down Guzzi I also have but didn't want to wrestle with the weight and am pleased with the compromise.

There is nothing wrong with the 1200, it's a bloomin' good bike and takes me and the missus where ever we want to go in comfort and packs bags of luggage - literally. It will also scratch at stupid speeds, solo, if required on A roads.

I have long held the opinion that for real road riding if your roadcraft is good enough, 80hp is plenty enough to make rapid progress. More hp makes it easier but you then start to rely on performance and not skill. Not so long ago this summer I was seen off by an ex-copper on a 70's Bonnie, a sobering experience as I'm no slouch.

I have had all sorts of things over the years, the last 2 being Ducati 748SPS, fantastic at going flat out, but nothing else. Sold that & bought a Monster S4, thought that would slow me down a bit, but rode it flat out everywhere because it was so much fun! Sold that & bought an 1150 GSA (for sale, '04, 12k miles, full history, mint condition). Absoloutely love it, unfortunately haven't had much chance to ride it this year, too busy, but prefer the way it rides to the 1200.

i purchased my speed triple cos i thought the lack of wind protection would slow my riding down a bit but i just ended up pulling wheelies everywhere
trading it for my 1200 was a good decision & i no longer ride like my trousers are on fire-although that may be cos i had just turned 40 at the time it has been problem free for the 3 years iv owned it now,no regrets + my mrs loves it.
