Guys need to remove tank to wire lights and sat nav etc. Are there any guides or tips? I've seen one that says to just remove bolt and raise tank without removing, does this give enough access to ensure wiring is routed safely etc? TIA!

Just cut yourself a bit of 3"x2" and prop it up That will give you plenty of room without the hassle of removal :thumb

If you haven't got quick release couplings on the fuel pipes I'd take the opportunity to fit some now. You'll need 2 couplings and a meter of 8mm hose plus some clips. I can get my tank off in about 2 minutes from turning the engine off. 2 fuel pipes, 2 overflow pipes, one electrical connector and a bolt.

btw, make sure you've got somewhere to put it when it's off.

To answer your question directly, you'll struggle to route wiring with the tank only partially removed. Not impossible but why struggle?

If your proping it up make sure its secure and doesnt drop down onto the plastic fuel delivery pipes that the injectors fit into.... as they snap when the tank lands hard on them ....

ask me how i know...

Ive always propped my tank up, after sliding it back an inch or two.
A hammer with a rubber handle is my usual prop......rubber end goes under tank lip, metal head props against the fuse/relay box lid.

On a bike with no ABS unit, there's a good tunnel to work in when passing wires the length of the tank from the battery, and the risk of unplugging/replugging the QDs for the balance pipe on an ADV is FAR greater a problem than the limited space issue when just propping the tank up IMO.

This is a great time to learn how to remove the tank so I'd say do it...make sure it's pretty empty by the way:rolleyes:
