I just bought a second hand remus can and Y- piece and have a question about how it should fit - forgive me if this is old news....

The can is a Revolution model with a rubber bush in the mount. Is there any way to mount this without it rubbing on the foot hanger bolts? Have I just not got it on straight or am I missing some spacer? Crawling back through old threads there seems to be a suggestion that earlier bikes need a different mounting on the exhaust (mines a 'W' 2000). By the time I've added locknuts on the rear of the hanger fixing bolts I've had to add about 6mm of washers to space it away and it is still touching one of the bolts.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated....

is there not any adjustment where hanger fixes to can if i remember the holes are slotted at this point so some adj'mnt is possible ;ie either slacken these bolts and the hanger mount and twist until you have acheived suitable clearance also have you got the spacer collar through the rubber mount youve mentioned hope this is of some help

Have you pressed the metal sleeve out of the original can rubber bush & fitted it into the Remus? If not try that - it might help - the "mushroom" head of the sleeve goes at the subframe hanger side. Mine fitted fine like that without any spacers, that was on an 05 GSA but I dont remember it fitting any different to my earlier GS (but that was an 02 so a bit later than yours)

Cheers

It's a common problem, probably more related to the lining-up of the Y-piece than the mounting of the can. Unless the Y-piece has the correct angle of dangle, it tends to pull the can out of line and causes it to rub the hanger bolts. Mine did exactly that until it rubbed a minute hole in the can.. Then I got around to re-aligning it by slackening everything off and getting the can in the right place first, then tightening everything up again.
As mentioned above, you may, however need the earlier bracket for the can which Remus dealers can supply.

remus

:spitfire mine did not fit at the can end so i made a brkt out of ally now it sits 25mm lower and in 10mm or so and is well clear of box.

Sounds like the later GS's mounted the can differently from my 2000 model. I tried calling Performance Parts today and they weren't much help - will try Sherlocks tomorrow and see if they either have the bracket for the earlier model, or the mushroom insert Ade described - failing that it'll be more washers! Will realign as well and see if that helps. Thanks for suggestions guys.
