Replacement clutch hose.

At some point before Spring, I’m planning replacing the main clutch line on my 2000 R1150GS.

The fitting at the slave end is rusting, and I expect the lower end of the hose will be deteriorating under the rubber sleeve.
I recently fitted a set of Goodridge black “shadow” brake lines, so was planning to get a clutch line to match. Unfortunately Goodridge can’t supply one……… They say the pattern of the one supplied to Motorworks is owned by them, so couldn’t do one direct to me. They suggest Motorworks could possibly order the black version. I’ll investigate that after the holidays. (Over £100 for a Motorworks/Goodridge line though)
Does anyone have experience of the cheaper hoses supplied by Probrake, Motobins or Sherlock?

Sherlocks looks like it could be manufactured by Hel. Motobins seems to be a venhill bolted one.

Whatever colour you get, it's a fun job. Almost as good as replacing the throttle cables.

Although, apparently if I follow Steptoe's detailed instructions, it shouldn't take much more than half an hour.................

I fitted the Probrake stainless clutch hose to my r1150gs back in 2009, still on the bike and in good nick 2 owners and over 7 years later

I had difficulty sourcing a braided clutch line and clutch bleeder line for my 2002 1150 back in 2011.

The standard BMW Adventure one was on back order so I finished up sending my old lines to ProBrake. They made them up for me with and the bleeder simple stainless steel brake nipple in the end. They will probably still have the details on file

Good quality and the bleed nipple will not corrode like the original. Also far cheaper than the BMW.

Good company and very efficient.

No problems so far!

I've got the Venhill one on my Rockster....as you say, removable fittings so easy enough to to order a black line direct from Venhills if Motobins can't supply you with one.

As for fitting, I managed to get the slave cylinder out without removing the subframe (shock and rear wheel was already out for other work, they will need removing) but the replacement hose was a different shape and/or size to the original, and no matter how I tried I couldn't get it to fit back in one assembly. I ended up removing the line, fitting the slave cylinder and then refitting the hose with a ground down Allen key....not the easiest of jobs but it's possible. Use a bent paper clip to stop the banjo bolt and washer falling out of the hose while getting the thread started.

I fitted the James Sherlock supplied item last year. No problems, and at £26 reasonably priced considering.

Fitted Probrake hoses to mine several years ago, found them good to deal with and hoses still as good as new. Relatively simple to replace once taken rear wheel and shock out (and exhaust to get at bottom shock bolt!) - get a long Allen key (I found a 10" one which did the trick) and removing the clutch slave cylinder becomes much easier. Put clutch hose in place but fit to slave cylinder first, then refit slave cylinder, and master cylinder last. Good luck
