When my left heated grip stopped working, I balked at the £50+ cost of a replacement & set about stripping down the old one. I figured that the only reason it would stop working was because the wire element had broken somewhere underneath the grip.
Careful cutting with a craft knife was all that was needed to get the grip off. The element, itself, is wrapped in a brown paper tape & this was also easy to remove with the craft knife, & revealed a plastic tube with a channel running a spiral along its length. This is what the wire element sits in &, sure enough, there was a break. I carefully wrapped this wire back in it's channel & secured the loose ends with some tape, after lining them up so that they were virtually touching each other. A soldering iron & a tiny blob of solder reconnected the ends properly & after it all cooled down, I wrapped it in electrical insulating tape & put a new right hand grip over the top (hairsprayed in place).
That was 4yrs ago & it seems to be holding up quite well...
