Replacement ignition keys

Anyone know if keys need to be got from BMW or can I get them cut locally.

You may be able to get something cut to match the key (e.g. to open the panniers) but I think they need the chip inside to operate the ignition, I think is probably a dealer thing.

Thanks. Mines an 08 model and the emergency key is plastic so no chip

The little plastic key has a chip in it AFAIK.

I got a second key from dealer, my plastic key had a tag with the key number on it, I also had to show log book, around £ 30 iirc.

I got mine from local BMW car dealer - they have access to the same parts system as the bike sellers - but may be a lot closer to home.

PhotoID and V5 needed (Passport worked)
