Does anyone know if the gear position sensor on a 1200GS can be changed without taking the swinging arm off?

Do you mean the gear selector switch? The one that shows on the display on the dash? Mines already had one fitted and it did,nt take them too long so I assume its fairly easy.:nenau

BUT it failed again over the weekend so another trip to the dealer:spitfire

I mean the black box with wires (aka auxilliary water-butt) on the back of the gearbox that senses what gear you are in so the computer can tell the dash what to display, including neutral, as that doesn't work either.

I guess if it's a quick job, either it can be taken off without removing the swing-arm, or the latter comes off easily!

I used to get that after a v wet ride or a v good wash. Good dose of WD40 solved it, after which a finger of grease was final solution. Thank Jefferies for the proceedure. Good luck

I had mine changed under warrenty and it took an hour as they had to wait for the cat to cool down. They have it down as a 20 minute job so I cannot imagine you would need to remove the swingarm.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I had a peek at the bike tonight and gave it a squirt of WD, I'll see what gives tomorrow. One last question; is the water causing problems by entering the 3-pin connector on the sensor housing or is it actually getting inside the sensor itself?

Hi folks, any pics of what this bit looks like & where it is? I`ve had no probs with mine but a bit of preventitive maintenance never hurt!

Mines was playing up a while back, with no neutral showing. Some WD and it's OK for now. Stupid location, not enough protection.
