Having been mired in DVLA hell I have decided to take the plunge and change my KMH clock for a MPH one in order to get it registered as a UK bike.

Couldnt get hold of a s/h clock so ordered a new one from Moto Bins @ c. £100 delivered. Ouch, but there you go.

It hasnt arrived yet but ahead of this any tips on performing the speedo-ectomy? I will probably just dive in and have a look but is there anything to be wary of? Will I end up with a jack in the box style spring of components flying everywhere and a big pool of leaked miles and kilometres on the garage floor?

Will it be a high swear count job?

.

I changed mine the other way when I moved to France. In fact, I'll have to have a rummage round the garage and see if I still have the MPH one. I know it's too late for you, but could be useful for those who follow in your footsteps. Mine was on the old GS1100 I had, and even for a mechanical numpty like me, it wasn't difficult. Can't remember the exact steps, but if I could do it, I'm sure anyone could. Just a case of taking off all the plastic bitties I could find then there was two 10mm nuts holding it in place.

Good luck.../Rob

Assuming you are talking 1150

Dead easy.
Take silver screen off.

Undo 2 10mm nuts without dropping them, Undo speedo cable with pliers.

Refitting, make sure the rubber bit by the trip wheel is the right way round, and the O ring fitted under the bevel.

Do the speedo cable up first as you will have some slack, you may find the 'nut' has slipped down the cable :D

Drop the 2 10mm nuts before replacing them :clap

Splendid gentlemen, thanks: I hoped it wasnt too difficult.

And I get an ultra low mileage 3 year old GSA into the bargain. Result!

If you find that speedo Franco I will have it off you _ Please
I was down in South of France last week and would not have minded a trip across to collect it
Never mind

Want to swap your KMH speedo for a couple of pints at the hog raost
I would be happy to swap it apart from the fact I am out of the UK - return on the 8th So will not be able to make it to the Raost. The fact it has 39500 kms on it may put you off - yet again I do not know what you MPH odometer has recorded.

Sorry Paul, I'd missed this reply. I'm afraid Manni beat you to it. Got a PM off him the same day asking about it, as he's brought his back from France and it's due the MOT in a couple of months. That's assuming I find it of course...

Cheers../Rob

No problem
Thanks anyway
By the way I have had no problems with MOTs as they just assume that the speedo is MPH!!!!
I do not enlighten them
