I have looked at the battery problems people have had as I have been having problems with the battery holding a charge. However after changing the battery I am still finding that when the bike is started from cold it will turn over a couple of times then just the dreaded click, the RID also resets itself. If it starts and I ride, after stopping the restart is then a lottery. It sounds like a short somewhere? I have checked the battery connections and obvious wires with no joy, any suggestions?

What bike?

How old a battery?

You have checked what wires where?

Sounds to me like the battery lacks capacity or you have a bad joint somewheres.
Or the starter motor is drawing too much energy ... how hot does it get?

missing info

Sorry the bike is a 2000 gs1150. The battery is a newish battery which has been charged and holds a charge, there seems to be no problem with it's condition.
I have checked the condition of the terminals and the connecting wires and traced the wires as far as I am able for breakages/ poor connections. The starter does not seem to get overly hot when starting.
Thanks
Dave

Same problem on a Yamaha last year, even down to the clock resetting. Although the bike was only 12 months old, it turned out to be the battery.

Hope this helps.

Possibly the relay has dirty contacts.

Do the lights dim much when this occurs .. or do they get a little brighter -
dimming = more load current - or battery bad
brighter = less load currrent - bad connection (relay, starter motor, a connectoion smewheres - even inside the battery.
