Restricting a 1200?

I've had a couple of japanese 400's restricted for people, at 58 bhp they were a hoot. at 33 bhp they were horrible little slugs with the performance of a poorly 250.
If it does that to a light weight bike a GS would be a nightmare.

Think the throttle stop kits are available here. You'd have to check though, not good at German, think it the 25kw kit you'd need- here.

Not sure about whether it can be done or not, I'm sure someone can comment. Though I wonder if it'd even move with 33bhp, I'm sure it'd be pretty odd to ride.

How long have you got left on your restriction fella? unless you're under 21 you might find it easier to either take your DAS or wait a while.

You can restrict an F650 which would probably handle the power reduction, might be a better option, then get a 12 when your restriction's over.

P.S. Why not just get an 1150 :D :D

its not 33hp,it is so many horse power to wieght OR 33bhp,,,,a blade is around 75 horse restricted,,,,,i used to fit the kits,,,,,unless its changed,?:nenau so offe piste will be right, the bm.s such a heavy bike the restriction mite be minimal

This is one of the reasons why I'd like to find out from someone with first hand knowledge of riding one.

I think it must have changed now, the dvla website says 25kW only for first two years.

It would be difficult to do it just by restricting throttle opening to the point where the motor made 33hp.

According to a dyno graph I have just looked at it makes 33hp at just over 3,000 revs. Surely it would be almost impossible to ride:nenau

Yes it can be and I've done it to mine. Very simple cheap job. I'm selling my GS BTW :augie

If you're based in Dublin either Maddocks or Duffy's can do it for about €300.

The bike still runs fine but you'll notice a serious lack of top end power. She won't 140kmh +

It'll be slower off the mark but still quick enough.

Duffy use a combination of a throttle stop and a restriction on the air flow to the fuel air mix

Interesting - might have a chat with duffy's about it.

What's the midrange like?

I mostly use my current bike for city traffic so that top speed/range wouldn't really bother me as long as there was decent enough poke in the mid-range.

You will need to kick down a gear, but you're holding her around the 3,000 RPM mark and don't have a pillion on you'll be tearing along fast enough to out run most things on four wheels and even clock up a few bonus points:thumb
