I have just started up the GS and all it does is rev and keep revving, any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Sorry I am a bit poor on the technical aspects as have had the bike (a triple black) for a very short time. It had no throttle given to it at all since last run out and just goes to high revs from start up

Well done anyway for becoming a fully paid up member straight away, Greg Masters has a point though, but understand where you are coming from- enthusiast. I'm not too familiar with the 12's however. Just basic know how should help you identify if the throttle cables are sticking. Check the throttle bodies and see if the accelerators are resting in the correct positions, if you can't identify the parts then I'd do some product appreciation whilst having your local dealer sort it out. Then once familiar with the various aspects you should be ok.

My guess is a cable has jumped off the cam wheel in the cable splitter box under the tank.

or a stone lodged in the throttle mechanism. had that myself with similar symptoms.

make sure they are closing correctly.

If you look closely at the throttle bodies you will see a cable going vertically down from under the petrol tank to the back side of the throttle body. Make sure both of those are seated. Flick the throttle open (engine off) and check the cables stays seated. If it jumps out again, the problem is under the petrol tank or the cable itself has frayed.

If the bike has one of those twist lock "cruise controls" on the throttle grip, make sure its not been left holding the throttle open.

If that's all ok and its still revving, (and you are not mechanically minded) best to get a mechanic to look at it. The GS is not hard to work on so if you have the mind to get involved with dirty fingernails stuff, doing it yourself is very satisfying.

Sometimes it's better to be brutal though......it saves people who can't tell their arses from their elbows (through no fault of their own, and no blame attached nor judgement passed :) ) from putting their pants on their heads and going out in public :beerjug:

have a look at the cables above the left hand cylinder (lh if your sitting on the bike) and just check none are snagged.
