Hi Folks

Posted the below yesterday in the section for newcomers. Duchess directed me here. I have done a search of the forum for info on this precise detail but didn't bump into anything...help appreciated.

I'm new here. New to beemers too, but not to bikes at all. I have a 'new to me' 1150GS, 1999/2000 model. It's a big mecano kit i am rapidly falling in love with. I should have got one years ago. Though after years on jap bikes, those noises are taking some getting used too :D

My question today is the RID unit. Has anyone ever got into one of these to change the bulb? I have just fitted LEDs into the rest of the instruments and you can't imagine the difference (ok, maybe you can :). I am about to fit an HID into the dip (i'm basically getting the bike sorted for the winter (sorry, thinking about that already :tears

So, any tips to replace that distinctly yellow bulb in the RID unit?

Many thanks

I have a feeling that the RID lights are soldered to the PCB, in which case you may have to do some fancy wire work

Interesting thread HERE on ADVrider......it's based on an 1100 rather than an 1150, but the RID is mentioned and I think it's the same unit as on the 11..

Thanks Fanum

Useful link. It's so easy to get the front off (screen, cover, lights etc) that i think i will get to looking into the RID. Soldering in some new LEDs should be quite straight forward actually but it will depend how well the PCB inside will come away and allow access to it. Sometimes the LCD displays have a purpose made backlight as opposed to LEDs soldered directly onto the PCB. I'm now really curious!

I will post the procedure on here when it's done as it seems few people out there have tackled this little mod.

Thanks again
