RID gear indicator cant count!

On my 1100 the gear indicator reads 3 for 1st, 2 for 2nd 3 for 3rd and then goes blank for 4th and 5th, the neutral light behaves as it should? ideas anyone? (my old suzuki used to read 8 all the time)

Have you got it wet recently ??

Also check where the gear indicator switch plugs into the loom . On the L/H side of the bike, side of fusebox. There are two switches, one for the neutral light, one for gear indication.
