Muckish (Irish: An Mhucais, meaning "pig's back") is a distinctive flat-topped mountain in the Derryveagh Mountains of Donegal, Ireland. At 666 metres, it is the third-highest peak in the Derryveagh Mountains, with Errigal being the highest. The mountain, with its characteristic outline, is a dominant feature of the north Donegal scenery.
Yesterday four of us tried to take 2 x 450 Husabergs, a CRF450 & a CRF230 to the summit of Muckish.............unsuccessfully:tears
Good view though

Where's your ambition Phil ?
Would ya not have aimed for the highest ?? That way, when you fail it doesn't sound as bad as having failed at the third highest :comfort

Ye obviously had the wrong bikes, a GS would have made it up there no bother. :nenau
First 1xx0GS to make it to the top gets 12 months bragging rights ! :D

From the translation I thought I would be on a 'Pig's back' and 666metres had a certain ring to it:reaper

I'll post a few more when I get a chance...........just had another member off this site welding my side stand back together(Cheers J:thumb)

Looks like youse went up the Saddle route - there's a wee track round the back takes you almost to the summit. Leads to an old quarry, I used to hoof it up there years ago. Never been beyond the quarry so don't know if it's do-able to the top on a bike

Bit hardcore for me that Phil, but some views from up there I'd say. Post a few more pics when you get a chance. :thumb2

Dunno what he's gettin' his knickers in a twist about, the quarries have been there since the 19th century and the landfill site had to be closed because the falling scree from the hill was filling it up.

Incidentally, the quarry at the back of the hill was where mica was extracted - it was taken by rail to the old quay at Ards Priory and exported to UK. During WW2, most of the instrument glasses in aircraft made in UK came from mica quarried on Muckish.

Not many people know that :rob :D

Oooooh Bin, you say the nicest things :blush

I'm just a mine of useless information, if you'll pardon the pun :D
