You hit it on the head. Yes she was a fiesty lady but bless her she was true to her beliefs and had my respect for what she stood for. She reminded me of one of my gpaw's hero's from the 16th century, Jenny Geddes.

MOD dodge ban to dump depleted uranium shells into Scottish waters

Westminster have allowed the MOD to dump 30 tons of radioactive waste into Scottish waters, using a legal loop hole to bypass laws set up to prevent such a thing. This sort of action would have no place in an independent Scotland. This disregard for the Scottish people is repulsive.

just aswell you don’t know about the sealed nuclear waste buried throughout scotland then.oh shit the cats out of the bag now.I’ll worry about spent uranium when the tramps in this country stop leaving their shite all over the countryside & treating the city centres like toilets.

Like most of the idiot propaganda on this thread, designed to distract from real issues; currency, fiscal policy, affordability of all the promises, EU, let's hear some real facts about the future....if you've got any....

Toddy. You have all the answers except the ones that the voters need to hear before the referendum. What happens without a currency union? How many jobs will independence cost? And what about companies with cross border pensions under EU rules. Answer these and stop skirting round the real issues with rubbish about depleted uranium that is also used as counterweights in aircraft, radiation shielding in medical radiation therapy and industrial radiography equipment and containers used to transport radioactive materials. Any risk is only from aerosol effects when the projectile his something and you are close enough to inhale the dust. Even then The World Health Organization states that no risk of reproductive, developmental, or carcinogenic effects have been reported in humans due to DU exposure.

If you want to post about something really scary discuss the percentage of gross domestic product that an independent Scotland will use on government spending. That is a real scare story.

You seem to have a problem with uncertainty Gerry. It's a shame then that certainty is really just an illusion. It would also seem that money is the only thing that you think the debate should be about. It's sad that people have become so thirled to the means of exchange that they can't see beyond it... :(

Fine words....what do they mean? Nothing.

Of course its about money, and finance, and fiscal management. Your fine words won't get us anywhere when we can't pay our way in the world. To try and pretend otherwise is naïve at best, dishonest at worst. Its also about employment, defense, NATO, EU and all those other things conveniently ignored by eck and the accolytes

"Certainty is an illusion" What ARE you talking about?

Virtually everything about independence appears to be uncertain, because there are no plans. That I have a problem with.

What have the SNP ever done for us?

I'm voting no because I really hate that Alex Salmond and the SNP, what have they ever done for us anyway?

Here's a few "wee things"...

Re-introduced free higher education by scrapping fees and the £2,300 graduate endowment.

Increased funding for college bursaries to support more than 42,000 students.

358 new schools have been built or refurbished, meaning that over 130,000 pupils have been taken out of dilapidated and substandard school buildings.

They've put 1,105 more police on Scotland’s streets, helping drive recorded crime down to its lowest level for 37 years.

Used £46 million seized from criminals to invest in community projects for 600,000 Scottish kids.

Provided more free nursery education, benefitting 100,000 pre-school Scots.

Reformed the laws on sexual offences to make it easier to prosecute people for serious sexual attacks.

Increased funding for Victim Support Scotland and our victim notification scheme is helping people affected by crime.

Provided parents with more information on dangerous paedophiles to protect children in local communities.

A record 39 new renewable projects since coming to power and pioneering climate change legislation.

Scotland is on track to produce nearly a third of our electricity this year from clean green renewable sources. And aiming for 80 per cent by 2020.

A £10 million Saltire prize for marine energy innovation has made Scotland a focal point for research and deployment of marine renewable technology.

Reduced the carbon footprint of the rail network by delivering 218 miles of new electrified track across the country.

Recycling is at its highest level ever under the SNP Government.

There will be NO new nuclear power stations in Scotland with the SNP.

They helped 250,000 people expand their learning with Individual Learning Accounts to pay for training courses.

Frozen council tax for the past 5 years, saving the average family more than £300.

24,000 affordable houses since coming into office – that’s an average of 117 new houses every week - creating jobs in the construction sector.

Protected spending in the NHS with an extra £1.2 billion over the last four years to safeguard frontline services – that’s over £2,800 for every man, woman and child in Scotland.

Spent £840 million to build the new South Glasgow Hospital.

Abolished prescription charges, saving people with long-term illnesses an average of more than £180 and scrapped charges at all NHS-run hospital car parks.

Criminals are being locked up for longer with prison sentences at their longest for a decade.

Violent crime is down by just under a third, and offences involving a firearm by almost half.

Tackling Scotland’s drug problem through the national drugs commission, and 20 per cent more funding to help people recover from addiction.

Slashed or abolished business rates for around 80,000 small shops and local employers, protecting jobs in tough times and matched the English business rates poundage, giving Scottish business a £200 million competitive advantage.

Committed to providing at least 25,000 modern apprenticeships this year

Found an extra £2.3 billion for jobs and public services by cutting back on waste and bureaucracy in Government, breaking the target of 1.5% efficiency savings.

Helped ensure that four out of five contracts for work in the public sector go to small businesses and our Scottish Investment Fund helps some of the best grassroots business projects get up and running.

More GP practices are open in the evenings and at weekends.

Helped to ensure infection in Scottish hospitals is now at an all time low through independent inspections, tripling the funding, hiring 1,000 more cleaners, introducing a new staff uniform and dress code and a zero tolerance approach to non-compliance with hand hygience policies.

Made sure our older generation is properly cared for by increasing payments for free personal and nursing care for the first time since it was introduced.

Plus more!

What a bunch of absolute b******s eh!

Toddy, quick question, are you by any chance funded by the SNP? Just curious
This seems to be beyond a healthy interest in the future and more of a propaganda machine at work.
I'm not making a judgement call on everything you say, just the way you do present it and only ever appear to quote the party line rather than a personal opinion.
You certainly come over as a propaganda machine
Just curious

So.......good to see such consistency in the indie camp.....Toddy telling us about all the 'free' (?) goodies the SNP have bestowed upon us, and Schtum telling us we are wrong to think in terms of money....clearly different models.......if only we knew which one comes nearest to the real world the rest of us inhabit.....

So Toddy, all that has happened when we are a part of the Union? Why do you want to break that up? I'd appreciate your answers please, not just another SNP soundbite....

I think Toddy may be busy getting instructions from his minder about what he has to post today and you have as much chance of getting his own opinion as you have as getting a job as a hens's dentist. So I will help out. The stock answer is that the evil tories are going to scrap the Barnett formula the moment you put a cross in the no box and there will be no money to pay for any of this. The fact is as an independent Scotland we would need to raise all the money to pay for this ourselves as well as fund the costs of duplicating functions that are now shared with the rest of the UK. The real threat in voting no is that the SNP will tear itself to pieces and we will have a labour run (or not run) administration back in the Scottish assembly. They would make a much poorer job of our finances and unlike the SNP would not have to keep their spending in check to bribe us for the referendum and things like council tax will go up. This whole stupid expedition into "freedom" will cost us whatever way we vote and be held up for years to come as a great example of "if it aint broke don't fix it "

Thanks for your interest but I'm not even a member of any political party.
My motivation is to try and counter the negative tosh and drivel from the old Tories on this site that insult my fellow Scots (and people of other nationalities).
A picture tells a thousand words.......
