My Garmin GPS60CS has not got the route calculation software on it, for some strange reason. Has anyone got it, or know how i can get it.

I take it you mean city navigator mapping. The 60 csx and all the rest of the handheld units i.e. extrex, 60, 76 and 276 do not come with road maps except a real basic base map and aren`t at all accurate. You will need the auto kit which is a package of City Navigator V8, power cable and car mount, this will give you auto routing.

I have europe in detail, world in basic. I have been onto Garmin and they say that for some reason the unit hasnt had the route calculation software.
I couldnt tell you what map software i have, but, im very pleased with the detail.
Garmin, say, that the software i need is available, on other CD,s which i dont have.

I have it mounted on my bike with a ram mount, remote antenna and hard wired to the bike. :thumb

I have the same model but without the compass/Alt and they do not have detailed maps when you buy them ,they just have the "major roads of Europe" as a base map .If you want more detailed routable maps you have to buy as has been suggested. The 60cs has only 56MB of memory so it will only hold detailed routable maps tiles of a very small area of the UK if you use CN v8 software ....Version 6 and 7 has much smaller map tiles which means if you wanted to plot a long trip you could select a much narrower corridor each side of the chosen route which makes much better use of the available memory. The cheapest option is to purchase SH MetroGuide Europe v7 (Unlike CN and CS MG is not locked to any particular unit) which is supposed not to be routable ,and it is not by transfering the maps with Garmins own software (Mapsource) but by using free third party software (IMG2 gps) you can get it to autoroute... There is more on this subject Here It is not as complicated as it first seems ..I should know ,I have it working on my unit. :)

Dave,
i bought my 60CS with uk and ireland in detail, street names, river names, and when zoomed right in, cinemas, hotels, fuel, theaters, and all places of interest. i do not know what software i have, but it is very detailed. ive used it all over the world, and it has all the main cities and roads on it. (France, Iraq, USA, Cyprus, spain)
I now believe, that the company i have purchased it from, have sacrificed the autoroute software to allow more map software.
It was a USA model, with europe software.
I dont know.
But i just thought i would post about it, in case someone had the software or was aware of this software :thumb
REF the 56 MB memory, when i was in Ireland last year, i noticed that as i entered Dublin, the map changed to Basic. i went into my map list and put a tick in the box for Dublin, and bingo, the full detailed map appeared.
Not having the autroute software has not bothered me, but i have now seen my mates Tom Tom and was impressed.

Just to confirm a few things, do you have to load maps onto your 60cs every time you travel to a different country, or are they already installed ? I think as it is a US model, you may have world map installed, but to be honest I don`t really know.

My brother had a 60 cs and was very happy with it, only down side was lack of memory and no voice commands. The screen wasn`t quite big enough and not that bright in bright sun light, but as an all rounder its a brilliant sat nav.

No, i dont have to load any maps, in the map set up page, i have a list of all the maps around the world. like Dublin, for example, i had to put the tick in for it to show the detailed map. i guess, i have to juggle the maps as i use them, but, so far, i am very pleased with it, i have used it more for my remote walking where the Grid references are more important. but as im now useing it on my bike the auto route would be good.

Garmin tech were very confused as to what had actually been installed on my unit. and it was doing things that it shouldnt, which they were very interested in. as it was performing better than it should.
Ive spoke to the company that supplied it to me and they just said, that they have installed a selection of software mapping and system software for the best performance, well thats ok and im pleased, but this is for the sacrifice of the auto route.

Well your Gps must be on steriods because detailed maps excludiing the routing data of the Uk and Eire alone is around 120MB  ..When you first boot up what does the text on the screen say??

Dave

So I take it that what your saying is, that you have detailed maps of the whole of Europe and base map for the rest of the world and you dont have to down load maps from Mapsource from you pc. You must have the most incredible 60 cs , as every other has 56 mb of memory which will only allow you to load about 1/5th of the UK. I think there was mapping that garmin use to sell for europe, I think it was called "roads & recreation" which was none routable but had most the detail on it, I believe its not available anymore, did you get any disc`s with your cs.

The company you bought it from has some how managed to load whatever maps you have, so you will have to uninstall them and buy an auto kit with City Navigator V8 if you want auto routing.

I didnt get any Cd (except mapsource, which ive never used)
I think you have hit the nail on the head, roads & recreation is what is on the startup screen.
So, i have to make a choice, leave the detailed mapping i have, with no auto route, or, unload the existing software and load the City Navigator V8.

It is so detailed i think i will keep it and get a Tom Tom Rider for auto route.

Thanks guys, this has cleared my query up.

Sorry i wouldnt get into the argument of "Well your Gps must be on steriods because detailed maps excludiing the routing data of the Uk and Eire alone is around 120MB"
