I rode my RS today for the first time with the lights on and found a problem: with no headlights on, all the warning lights on the dash works fine, once the headlight is switched on all the idiot lights on the dash and the rev clock stop working. The headlight and indicator remain working, just the warning lights fail. I know next to nothing about electrics, can anyone give me a pointer where to start with the problem TIA

Is this with the engine running? Is the headlamp as bright as normal? You'll have a voltmeter fitted as standard on the RS, is that giving the normal reading? (OK everybody says that the voltmeters on RS's are crap, but it's sometimes helpful to know if they read higher or lower than normal, even though the voltage it shows may not be too accurate.)

Thank's for the replies. I visually checked all the wires and connections inside the fairing and that seemed OK, then I thumped the clocks and that seemed to do something: 3 more good thumps and everything settled down enough to get through the MOT today :) I will take the clocks out and check for loose conections and spray a bit of WD40 around when I have time.

Don't you just hate electrics. My electrics on my r80g/s are perfect - except that with no lights on, when I put the brakes on, the instrument lights come on )as well as the brake lights)- never have managed to fathom out why!

Mine had a similar problem.

Started pulling as many connectors as I could access appart and cleaned as much as possible.

It's still not perfect but works much better now, full lock sometimes causes an issue with the clock lights.

The terminal extractor tools work quite well although not cheap.
