I'd contradict Dr Nosh, I've had 2 2010-'s, both had switch issues, 1st had both left and right bar switch unit's replaced under 10k. 2nd bike had the kill switch stay in the off position, so was replaced at the side of the road by Assist. I've never had the 'Hot Ignition switch' issue, but that's probably because of the inclement weather in the UK!
Advice: other than not buying one... check the switches have been renewed, try not to let water onto the switches (keep it covered if stored outside), buy a bike that has some warranty and then complain the switches are failing intermittently.
Console yourself that BMW won't recognise there is an issue, and have continued to fit the same switches to the 2014 model!
