Had my 08 GS serviced the other week, when I got home and having a look round the bike I noticed this protective boot/gaiter between the gearbox and driveshaft housing was starting to perish.

Sorry no photo's, but I was told by BMW service bod that this was ok on a 3 year old GS.

No joy from the dealer or BM customer service. £20 ish for the bit and 1.5 hrs labour "as long as nothing else goes wrong". So we're talking at least £150 of my hard earned pounds here!!!!!

Just wondering am I expecting too much from BM with regards build quality etc.

That does seam a bit of a short life span , i wouldnt be paying them my hard earned cash to change it , order the part and change it yourself save £100 :thumb

Quite sure I could take it apart but I'm sure the bike would never be the same again:augie

Very limited patience (and skill) lol.

have a 06 GSA, had to have the front ball joint, and both rubber gators on swing arm replaced last month, not coverered under extended warranty....

The 17 year old boots on each end of my 1100's swingarm are just fine :nenau

Yes but this is a 1100.....which means....dependable BMW.

All the rest are just "customer patience" experimental BMW bikes.:barf

just had the same done on my 08 gsa cost was 1 hrs labour plus part 30 quid, total £105 i already bought the part and told them it was in the top box but they took one of the shelf/stock cheeky twats! so ive got one you can have foc to keep the hard earn pounds to a minimum

Just done this on mine 09 GSA along with the big one between the swinging arm and FD. It really isnt a big job to do if you fancied saving £100.
