I am wanting to run MRA using Offline Maps as I will be doing a 6 day tour where I cannot charge my iPhone on the bike and am concerned on battery consumption.

Can someone spell out the steps I need to go through to achieve this?

I have tried to initiate this by selling Offline Maps in Navigation preferences , but having done that and then selecting a route to run, MRA Next will not open up the route and allow me to select ‘Navigate’ without me allowing online maps!

So, if you have run offline maps successfully (to increase battery life) then could you spell out the steps to achieve it?

Btw, I have Synced my routes and I have the maps downloaded to my phone.

I have even tried selecting Airplane Mode to force offline maps to work, but with no success

Unintuitively, in the app you need to press the little profile icon on the top right, which takes you to the Account menu.
Scroll down till you see Offline Maps, and then download whichever you need.

Then it should work.

I’m doubtful the battery will last all day, however, so maybe put a power bank in your tank bag and connect it to the phone.

Sorry, just saw you’ve downloaded the maps already.

Let me check again

Well, if you’ve downloaded the maps already, and selected offline navigation, it should work. Mine does.

Yep, I can navigate to a destination or navigate a saved route, offline in airplane mode.

see post 25. offline maps use v little data

Have you synchronised the route(s) you want to run in offline mode, Paul?

I run offline maps and routes on MRA. If you have the map, the routes synced and offline routing selected then the routes should load from your library..........except if you are running a track as a route (make sure any gpx tracks you have are converted to routes) or if you have offroad waypoints.

The waypoints don't actually have to describe an off-road route as such, it can just be a waypoint that is badly placed i.e. not on the road. So check your routes against the HERE map and make sure they are placed on the road in the HERE map.

Do not route to the road in an OSM, MIchelin, Tom tom or Google maps overlay in the planner as the actual position of the road varies from map to map. Generally this is no more than 10m but in a few roads in the southern uplands of Scotland the variation of road position between maps can be up to 50M. Always do your accuracy checks against the HERE map.

My phone maintained a positive charge while using MRA in offline mode when plugged in. No issues with power consumption

When plugged into what? The OP seems to have no method of plugging his phone into anything, when on his motorcycle.

I did. A bit of a reset:

Delesected offline maps, downloaded the update of the maps needed to my phone, then reselected Offline Maps in my Navigation settings, and finally selected Airplane mode on my phone.

Then opened the MRA App, Routes and Tracks and selected my route from the library. The app allowed me to open the route and select ‘Navigate’, so all seems to be working

My guess is that the offline maps had not downloaded properly and this was cured by updating them

Thanks all for your suggestions

Jolly good.

Just to be sure:

A. You have downloaded (synchronised) all the routes you’ll want to use offline.

B. You carried out your trial run, with the phone fully off-line, for example in aeroplane mode or with the SIM card taken out.

Good advise so is having a power bank. I doubt you will get more than 3-4 hours running MRA (or any other GPS app) on your phone before the battery is depleted. Turning down screen brightness helps.

A. Yes
B. Yes, in Airplane mode

Good, so it definitely now works.

Now buy yourself a decent power brick thing from say, Anker. When you stop for lunch, plug the phone in and give it a boost.

Whilst MyRoute’s Navigation app has improved its power demand greatly, it is not entirely in full ‘nibble only’ territory.

Not least, if it’s your only phone and you have a problem, requiring a call to ADAC or whomever, you don’t want to find yourself with little or no battery.
