RUNNING RICH

only had bike since last thursday and not even rode it.

That's what I thought and why I asked how long you'd had it in my question . Your bike sounds perfectly normal, ride it and enjoy before you start worrying . Remember people tend to over elaborate when posting advice, they tend to miss the obvious (like how long have had the bike or have you even ridden it 😄 ) in their rush to post the most technical answer 😄

thankyou for the great advice,,,the choke lever does seem to have an issue,,,if i pull it up it doesnt really stay there
It's not meant to - you hold it up with your thumb for starting the bike then let it go and it drops back to the riding off position. Don't let the bike idle to warm up (you'll get exhaust/patrol fumes :D ) - start it and ride off.

I don't like to contradict St Eptoe, but you might be describing what my fast idle did when the detent ball went rusty. The lever should pull all the way on against spring pressure, drop back to half way, then click all the way off with a gentle push. If the lever is sticky, just holding the throttle slightly open instead works fine unless you need to stop and close a gate while the bike still needs fast idle...

.need to give it a quick service as im off to cornwall next friday.

Is there oil in it ???
Does it start Okay ????
Does it Engage Gear and Change gear Okay???

Then The best advice i think everyone here can give you is "Don't Phaff about servicing a bike that is totally New to you!"

Because it'll stress you out and there's a heavy possibility that you will run into Newbie Problems!!!

The only thing I will suggest is that you check the brake pads (and rear calliper for sticking on slides) and the brake fluid levels

And the Final Drive for play either at the Paralever bearings or Big Bearing
