S1000XR

I agree you get a large proportion of your money back, but I'd prefer the same colour as the the clutch n brake perch ie black, I want short levers (2 fingers) I've got the same on my gs and they work a treat.

Lets not forget HP stuff is probably made either in China or Malaysia .

However if in the end i bite the bullet and buy the levers I'm having them direct from Germany, there cheaper.

If you're going to spend near on £15k for a bike, another £280 for levers is a drop in the ocean!
.:thumb

We will have to disagree on this one, I fully understand if you cannot buy elsewhere then there's only one purchase option, like the rear sets I've had to buy HP, it's not that I cannot afford it, I just don't see £280 in levers

Show me a set of pazzo's for a gs and I'll show you mine and tell me the difference because there identical to a point I could stick em in a pazzo box and flog em on the bay

But you can't buy elsewhere, if you want the cruise control and quick shifter to work properly!:D

I'll show you the ads for Chinese Arai Look-a-likey helmets.................... Care to put your money (head) where your mouth is - and trust one of them? After all - they look identical....... :rob

But - that is your risk to take (chinky levers) :thumb2

The £280 levers appear a bit steep, and I think I would wait and see what the likes of CRG/ASV produce.

If you have a £10 head wear a £10 helmet

However I'm pleased to say they DONT FIT it's the Brake lever now, so I'm going to buy the CHINESE levers that BMW sell .

Go and take the new Multi for a spin, the engine is a peach and the skyhook suspension soaks up back roads like a dream.

Yes the Multi is great, until it overheats in traffic, loses the clutch and blows the pot to piss oil all down the headers! Okay when in warranty, run like a bastid if not!

I now have a build date of first week in August but it is comming down as it was originally 3rd week in August !

Bloody nutty has talked me into those levers which will mbe fitted at PDI

I think these largish capacity upright touring bikes with great road manners will slowly but surely replace the current trend for Adventure bikes. Sadly it seems that all the manufacturers have adopted a 'bigger is better' attitude towards the design of said 'Adventure bikes' and have seemingly turned them into a caricature of a concept lost long ago.

Not sure I agree with that, people have been taking sports bikes/big sports tourers, and taking off clipons and fitting renthal bars, luggage racks (homemade or otherwise), for year, in large part because nobody made what they wanted.
the Adventure market is nothing more than an extension of that, the new RX is just a development, I personally think its here to stay especially the large CC/BHP versions, there is a very large market for sports bike go and handling with a sit up and carry luggage riding position not because an Adventure bike is wanted but that a sports bike is wanted but the sit up riding position is needed!!! it is in my case and lots of others I know. I have no realistic probability of an overland off road adventure, Elephant Rally, Dragon and long distance road touring is my limit, but I would still choose the style over any other.

on the other points, 50 quid on a rad protector is good value, as a small branch through a rad on a previous bike was a very expensive exercise.
A chain is not a deal breaker, I have chain on a 990 and shaft on an R1100GS, similar but totally different motorcycle riding experiences, I love the chain until I have to adjust it/clean it/replace it at which point I just long for the ease of the shaft, I have had the GS for over ten years, and replaced the oil twice I think. On balance would prefer a shaft, cant quite understand why in 2015 I still have a chain whizzing past my legs at several times road speed, there MUST be a better system.

I completely agree with the comments on the build quality though, but then it applies to most make now though, they are built to a price not built to a standard.

I am off on the XR tomorrow for my test ride and expecting to love it.

You only have to go to the ring or anywhere in Germany where there's a bike meet and renthal bars on R1's and other plastics rockets are big business, the XR is just an extended version of this market, several forums are already showing that majority of the punters whom are buying this bike are coming from the jap competition, BMW have got the whole biking market covered. These punters will start off on the XR and throughout the yrs no doubt end up to the gs creating a revolving purchase cycle. Out with the deadwood in with the new !

I tested one today too. They gave me one to try and placate the eye watering cost of my 3 year service. To be honest I'd been seriously considering one later this year or next, but whilst it's an awesome bike in many ways I'll be sticking with my TC.

Good points:

Feels really light and flickable
Great suspension on decent roads
That engine above 6k
Stock exhaust sounds great
Ergonomics probably better than the GS (for me)

Bad points

Awful fuelling on part throttle at low speeds. Many because it's in restricted mode due to mileage
Suspension harsh on most 'normal' roads
No torque low down - in the cut and thrust of commuting I missed the instant wallop of the boxer
Too frantic - fabulous when you're focussed on the right road, but a chore when you've had a lng day and want a nice easy ride home

Basically it's the same as any other IL4 sports bike but it's comfortable. Fuelling was the biggest disappointment - it was terrible when try to filter at what 3k/20 mph on the commute into Leeds. Maybe the restricted map, or sortable with a power commander, but it completely put me off.

Quick shifter was a nice novelty, but by the time I returned it I'd gone back to using the clutch.

It's a great bike and they will sell loads, but it's not a GS replacement at all, just a sports tourer

I'm guessing it was the restricted map on yours. The one I tested today had 1200 miles on it and fuelled perfectly. It also had masses of bottom end grunt and I could pull away from stationary just by letting out the clutch without any throttle. I thought the suspension was pretty good on B roads and unclassifieds as well. I take it yours did have ESA?

Yeah, it was fully loaded.

Maybe harsh is the wrong word - It was just extremely firm, even in 'road' mode. My GS felt like a magic carpet after it on the ride back home.

I must admit I'd not heard anyone else complaining about fuelling so probably was the restricted map. It was perfect on half throttle or more, and bloody brilliant on open roads when accelerating, but then as I got into the city and the revs dropped (trickling through traffic in 1st and 2nd) it was terrible - lurching and hesitating constantly.
