Having done a round trip of 3 hours each way on the GS on Friday I have come to the conclusion that I need a new (more comfortable) seat. I was originally thinking of a Sargent one but would like to know opinions on the Kahedo offering as well as the Sargent.

I have recently got hold of a Sargeant seat and have only done a couple of rides on it so far, and I am not that happy with it. The seat itself is comfy but it seems to make me sit further back on the bike and I feel I am stretching for the bars. I need to get some more miles on it before making a decision, but if it is not for me then it will be an expensive mistake!!!

See if you can try before you buy!!

I owned and used both Kahedo and Sargent seats. The Kahedo was EXTRA low versus the Low on the Sargent.

They are BOTH much better than the stock seat.
1. They are shaped like your bum
2. It makes you sit more ergonomically comfortable for long distances (no issues doing 1100 miles in one day)
3. They do not push your nuts into the tank

As for which one is best. It's really personal.

I kept the Sargent because financially it made more sense. You can get a good price for a sargent and they sell within minutes. This is only in my opinion because of brand recognition. Not many people have actually owned both and used both like me.

So either .. you have the opportunity to try both then decide on the one you like.

Or if you can't try any, then buy the sargent. If you didn't like it. You get your money back by selling it on here.

I have tried a Wunderlich Kahedo low and found that although they maintain it is lower than the low BMW seat my feet are no lower to the Tarmac due I think to that it seems to be a tad wider.

Does the same apply to the low Sargent seat as you have tried both.

Im thinking of buying a low Sargent but if my feet are no closer to the floor there is no point as comfort on long runs is not a problem, but being a short arse is!!!!

Any advise would be appreciated Tom. (Not the Cuban heel crack though!)

I found the Sargent and the Kahedo to be lower than the stock seat. It could be just in my head :nenau but I felt far more ease paddling my GS then my GSA backwards with these seats. Feet felt more flat on the ground than the stock seat. I don't think I am tall enough to ride the GSA on the stock seat. The sargent and kahedo were both fine. Kahedo extra low was a little harder than the sargent.

The other option I looked at is a different boot. The Daytona M STAR. Has a higher inner heel. So it looks "normal" from the outside but it is a couple of cms higher. If budget permits .. you may want to try both.

got a sergent thought it was crap until i got it broke in really comfortable now but before you spend a lot of dosh try an air hawk

100% .. you need to let the seat bed in. Otherwise you would think it is crap.

Applied to both Kahedo and Sargent.

I tried it with the Sargent, which did not fit to my butt. Then I had a closer look at the TT Kahedo, and got that instead which is just that much better (for me).

Try both of them and decide - it's very personal which one is the one for you.

Seats

I ordered my GS with the low seat option as I am only 5 foot 10 and wanted to get flat footed on my first GS.

The seat seemed quite comfy at first, and as I ride a push bike quite often I did not think a hard seat would worry me.

Then I rode for more than an hour and it was the preverbial.

Back home I engaged the services of a local upholsterer who replaced the BMW soft foam with higher density stuff.

I had not noticed just how good it was until my better half commented that I had not moved my bottom for the last hour and a half.

Job done, cost £90.

Well pleased, even more so as a guy down the road bought a Kahedo and cannot get cumfy on it.

There is no definative answer as to the best seat.

Different arses suit different seats. So take no notice of a person telling you to get a particular seat because it suits him. It might not suit you.

You may have to put on some handlebar risers i did with my corbin seat.

Just by a sheep skin for £10 from lambland.co.uk brilliant stuff . You will get about 40 sheep skins for the same money as a sergent seat :thumb2

That what I call a comfy seat:D

Thoughts on my new Sargeant seat

I've two tours planned in the coming months and decided I'd treat my bum to a new saddle as the standard GSA (2008) one gets a bit of a pain after 2-3 hours. After researching posts on this site, I ordered a standard height Sargent which arrived this Friday.

On my first test ride, it felt quite low compared to the BMW one - both were set on low. It even looked lower and didn't match the height of the standard passenger seat like the BMW one does.

Back in the garage I measured both seats with the bike on the centre stand. The the Sargent was 4-6 cms lower across the main seating area. This was great for feet flat on the floor, however it meant that I sat lower into the bike with knees bent more and ultimately less comfortable for my shape. I then put the Sargent on the 'high' setting and it was still about 2 cms lower than the standard seat when that was set on low (the rear raised lip of the Sargent now meeting up with the leading edge of the BMW rear seat)

According to the Sargent website, it should be exactly the same height as standard seat whether set high or low position. I called Calamander (UK importer) to check if they'd sent a low version by mistake. By checking certain seam lengths and the labelling, they decided that I did indeed have a regular height seat and not the lowered version.

I was expecting the Sargent seat profile to give slightly better leg reach to the ground, as the standard seat is a real plank with virtually no side contouring. However I was surprised that the seat top would be significantly lower that the standard offering.

Have any other Sargent seat owners found their standard seat to be lower than expected? I'm still wondering if I've been sent a mislabelled 'low' model

I am not far from Beaconsfield .. so if you want send me a pm and you can pop round to try the low one. Just to verify that you don't have a low one :thumb2

I recently bought a low Sargent seat for my GSA and it suits me brilliantly!!
It is lower than the oem seat and far far more comfortable.
Recently did a 9 hour day in the saddle and no sore arse at all :thumb2
