I had my R110gs for some time, its now done about 80,000 miles (done 14000 this year). Yesterday I took my wife out on it and she didn't like it at all and for a while I've been looking to get a lighter bike so today been looking at KTM950-990.

Save me what should I get/do

Everyone wants different things from a bike - only you know the 'mix' that works for you and your missus - ironically my other half likes travelling on the back of my 1100

Make damn sure you take her out on the katoomer before you buy for that reason......they're not exactly comfortable for a pillion either

Convince your wife to learn to ride her own bike.

Just over a year ago SWMBO said to me when I suggested it "There is no way" etc etc. A little time went past and in October this year she will have been riding for a year. She now looks for a reason to go out rather than one to stay at home so it worked for me as I get the GS to myself and she has a lot of fun on her 750cc 'Italian tractor'

What is her problem with the bike? seat? - change it. feels insecure? - fit a top box and back rest.

The wife doesn't like it so a good excuse to get another bike. I don't like the weight and there must be a better off road adventure type bike out there.

I ride off road a lot and not getting any younger.

Lagunas in Ashford are pretty good fro test rides, cant see em letting you take one off road though.

Try an 800 GS for your off roading - or, dare I say it, a single 650 GS Dakar. They are actually amazing little bikes. I used one a fair bit out in Cape Town and surrounds. Used it for going into the back of the mountains A LOT. Worked brilliantly.

I have had a 650daka but not to good on the road. The 800gs I've been told are sh1t off road but not been able to try one. Anyone ride one off road, lots that can comment please.

I have rode tested one and love the feel of it but need reliability I'm afraid. It’s a real shame that there is so many probs with the 12, so far this year I have done 14 000 miles, so 28 000m a year. How many times a year would I brake down on a 12.
Are the 2009 ones any better? Has anyone done 50 or 60 000miles with no trouble?

Can’t believe I’m tempted with a KTM but they are looking good over the BMW

Come on mate think about what you typing, 2009 and we are in June now. How many people out there put 10 000 miles a month on their bike

Mate of mine has 86 000 miles on his 2006 1200GS, normal servicing and had the bevel drive bearing replaced - that's it. He does around 200 miles a day.

By the looks of it you have already sold your soul to the Orange side

Not sold on it yet but I do have an orange BMW. You’re right with the mileage sorry, I would like to hear from any high mileage 1200 owners.
