I currently have autocom (super pro) with zumo 550. Phone connects to zumo via bluetooth. Mp3 from zumo is connected to autocom via lead and zumo connects to autocom via autocom bluetooth dongle.

I can hear mp3 from zumo clearly however I like to be able to recieve occasional phone calls but the volume is too low and as soon as I go faster than 30mph I cannot hear the caller. They can hear me clearly.

Im considering changing to scala G4 as I like the idea of wireless system and also added feature of FM radio.

Is Scala G4 better than autocom for volume? I also have bmw system 6 helmet and heard that Scala doesn't fit this helmet has anyone else done this?

Recently upgraded to G4 from Autocom system, have to say sound levels far better for music and intercom, cant answer the mobile phone query as i never use it.

have you considered the Sena SMH-10?

it's a great intercom and you can get different mounting plates for it so I'm sure you'd get it to fit the System 6, I bought the mount with the mike that mounts to the inside of the helmet and it works just fine on my Schuberth C3

it's also plenty loud enough to hear everything at motorway speeds with earplugs in and the sound quality is great

Yes I did look at smh-10 but I like the idea of the fm radio builtin to Scala G4. I currently have a small FM radio plugged into autocom which I like to use so I think I would miss this if I use SMH-10

I believe the 550 has sub-controls for GPS, MPS and Phone volume in additional to the master volume level. Have you got the phone volume cranked up to maximum?

The other possibility before you bin the Autocom is to talk to the factory about a suitable wired-only connection for the Zumo-> Autocom link (cable part number 4066?).

I use in-ear monitors with my Autocom and I had to tell my son to whisper when we went out last Sunday. Clarity was stunning. I will also readily admit that one of my problems in switching to Bluetooth is saying goodbye to my big investment in Autocom gear (1 bike, 1 scoooter, maybe a 125 for one of the kids, helmets for 3 different pillions, bike-to-bike radios etc).

Yes I have 550 master volumes set correctly. The problem with autocom is that the aux1 bluetooth input for phone doesnt have auto volume control so at low speeds its ok but as soon as you speed up volume disappears. Also Im not impressed with autocom as you pay a lot of money for the main unit but this unit is so basic as it doesn't include required isolating transformers etc on the inputs. You end up buying so many additional addons that it gets stupid and theres no space under the gs seat for so many extra boxes.

I also like the idea of a wireless system including the FM radio. However there are reports that scala fm radio is not good.

Im asking these questions as everything you read about autocom is how good it is but really it only works well for one or two options. I dont want to shell out on scala with high expections to end up with another not very good system

Had four Scala G4s. All broke or were crap. I found the buttons very difficult to use. I bought it mainly for the radio in London crap. I really wanted it to work but gave up and went for Starcom which also has its issues but at least it works.

Had my G4 for 6 months and wouldnt be with out it. Its on my lid permanently and it hasn`t missed a beat.
Top kit.

Hope this helps

If not try searching that forum, Wiz is a bit of an autocom erm...Wiz

I've had no probs at all with my pro avi 300, mind he helped set it up. :thumb2

What functions of the G4 do you use?

Im looking at using it paired with zumo for occasional phone calls and the FM radio. Maybe some mp3 from zumo but I know this is mono and not good so I may pair another mp3 player or get ad2p bluetooth adaptor for zumo.

Like Brian said Wiz knows quite a lot about Autocom kit. Though do bear in mind that the thread linked to is about 6 years old and things have moved on since.

I have had Autocom Active Plus and now a Super Pro Avi, both these are from the 2006-2009 range. I found, through trail an error that speaker position is absolutely critical to an effective install. In both terms of alignment of the centre of the speaker with your ear canal and proximity to your ear. I have mine mounted under the lining of my Arai Quantum with home-made foam stacks (you can buy these from Autocom as well) bringing the speakers lightly into contact with my ears. All day comfy though. Set-up thus the system works very well with my regular Max Lite ear plugs.

I can only assume that similar attention to this area will improve any bike intercom system by a considerable amount.

I went from being able to just about hear at motorway speed to having good audio at 80 and acceptable at 100mph.

Mic position is also critical, you need to be able to touch the mic with your lips if you 'pucker up'.

Works well for sat nav, phone (currently via old style Autocom Bluetooth module), bike-to-bike and music (from sat nav or separate MP3). I got the new special Autocom 'Garmin lead' for Christmas but have yet to fit it. Should enable phone via the sat nav once done.

My Super Pro Avi cost £43 off eBay complete with cables (from regular kit) and headset, I think I got lucky. Having said that I just bought another Super Pro Avi for a eBay phobic m8 for £105 but this included lots of extra goodies such as isolated leads, Bluetooth module, three headsets etc. Admittedly I've spent a fair bit on isolated cables, Bluetooth module, radios, BO antenna kit, PTT switch, pillion headset etc. (mostly on eBay). Very happy with the system as it stands, everything bike powered, usable up to 3 figure speeds as tested last year in Germany (sat nav, music and bike-to-bike).

I can see the appeal of Bluetooth headsets, my touring buddy has an Interphone f4 but the bike-to-bike options are limited for group riding (we tried a Tribe but it got sent back for a refund, enough said). Needing to charge them each night can be a pain, especially when camping but I suppose the counter argument is that the likes of Autocom have cables between bike and helmet.

Further to skygods post,

I use mine all the time, music awesome, rds radio, awesome IC awesome, Phone awesome, its a great bit of kit. I ride all the time and its never off, get one ,trust me.

I also used zumo but got pissed off with interruptions to the music.

Oh buy a cheap ipod and use that, the quality is amazing and much less hassle :)

I use it for phone calls, GPS and the FM radio. We sell them in our shop and we do have quite a few people come back with problems. The main one being user error.
Its not the simplest piece of kit to get to grips with but when you have its quite straight forward.
