I've got lots of 35mm photo prints from my previous non-digi camera which I'd like to get on disc and also view on my PC. Am I correct in thinking that scanning and saving said pix is the only way to do this? If so, how much would I need to spend on a half decent scanner? Bearing in mind that this is the only function that I reckon I would need it for. I've got a new hp PC but no scanner function.

Cheers

You'll need a reasonable amount of money for a half decent scanner (probably >£300) but worst of all, you'll need half a lifetimne to do it!

If you have a lot, investigate a professional outfit that will scan them onto CD or DVD for you.

Iain,

Thanks for that. I think I'm going to cry! Bloody hell...didn't think I'd need to spend that much. That said, I haven't a clue about such matters.

Ronno, The one I just bought was 100poond from comet. HP 1315. scans copies prints and makes great coffee.
No idea if its good or bad or indifferent.
But it does the job and..........

The cartridges are the same as my works printer

Cheers Den,

Thats more like the kind of dosh I was looking to pay. Funnily enough I saw a recent thread of yours showing old photos which you'd scanned so I was gonna pm you about where you got it.

Sorry Ronno, my mistake.

I had just logged on after 2 weeks away and your post was the first I (almost) read.

I thought you were referring to scanning slides!!

Scanning prints is much cheaper but still takes forever if you want to end up with an electronic photo album though

Ronno have a look at the link below for ebuyer and you will see a lot of scanners below £100, you'll note that it say "used" with ebuyer this means that the boxes have maybe been opened or are damaged it doesn't mean they are secondhand.

I have used eBuyer loads of times and have superb service and really cheap prices. The first link is to there clearance deals and the second link is to their normal stock where they have scanners starting as low as 20 to 30 quid, obviously you'll only get what you pay for but I would be tempted to stick with HP, Canon or Epson. If you see one you fancy take a note of the model and go to the final link below and read a review on it, hope this helps mate.
