Anyone have any experience/views regarding useage and noise levels of the Schuberth Concept lid? Also interested re any fitting of intercom systems to these lids.
Ta very much

Had a Concept for about 4 1/2 years. Very pleased with it. The sun visor in particular is invaluable (I used it on the Nice/Genoa road which I think has 63 tunnels - don't think I could have coped without it). But do a search to find alternative opinions; some feel it is not optically clear though I have not found that.

Well ventilated and well made. Not sure about noise. Seems OK to me but its too long since I compared with another helmet to make an objective comment.

Had one for 18months wear it most days for commuting also did 3000miles last year in Europe and no headache at all very comfy the ventilation is excellent, flipping open the front in town helps keep you cool and the little drop down sun visor is great as well. Noise not an issue as I wear plugs.
If I needed a new helmet tommorrow I would buy another concept

I'm pleased with mine; good fit, comfy, sun visor a big plus, good ventilation & not too heavy.
BUT it is noisy, primarily caused by wind across the hinge mechanism/sun visor lever.

I've had mine about a year and a half.

I love the helmet and although it is noiser than others I've used this is not a problem with proper CE approved custom molded earplugs. I also have Tobinators which help reduce the buffetiing.

Intercoms...

My first outing after fitting Autocom speakers was agony and I started reading threads about cutting the protective inner of the helmet to fit them... In the end I just fiddled around a bit and found a better positioning for the speakers which is now fine.

Helmets are a very personal thing, but when mine needs replacing I will almost certainly get another. (or maybe the C2..)

My Concept is just about come to the end and IMO it's the best helmet I've owned. Genuinely comfortable for all day riding though [as has been said] ear plugs are a must as with any helmet.

Prior to the Concept I used two Shoei lids, both gave me pain across the forehead - but not the Concept. Occasionally I can get a prickly itch across the forehead but wether this is due to pressure, sweat or a reaction to the liner material I don't know - may be all three.

I'm going to try a C2 next in the hope it'll be more of the same only quieter.

I don't know if Schuberth are having supply problems at the moment, but every dealer in the North West seems to stock one Shubeth helmet and if you don't fit it or it ain't the colour/model you want then tough.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I got to try a C2 and a Concept today. Both very well made lids but for me the C2 was very uncomfortable around the throat, even after removing the small triangular piece from beneath the chin guard.

The Concept was more comfy but a little tight around the ears.

I then went off to a BMW dealer and tried a System 4 and have to say it was very comfy. My last experience with System lids was around 7 years ago with the System 3 which I disliked due to its weight and opening mechanism.

I'm used to Arai Astro R and J's and RXX7, I'm told that the Schuberth and System lids are all quieter than the Arais.

So, surprisingly for me, it looks like it'll be a System 4, didn't think I'd ever be buying one of those.

Thanks again
Steve

Same for me Steve, I really wanted to buy a C2 or/and an S1 but walking around the shop for 5 mins with them on put me off. The S1 is a super bit of kit but didn't fit my head.

I had a Concept for about a year and it saved my life when I had a big accident (my head hit a kerb at about 35mph) - very happy with it.

After getting a new bike I got a TourX whilst waiting for the C2 to be launched, have now had the C2 for 6 mths (£250 from the NEC show).

The C2 is a lot quieter than the C but not silent, probably a little quieter than the TourX though. I have a 21" neck and the throat closure was tight and uncomfortable initially but has now loosened up and is fine - it does seal the helmet well and helps keep the noise low. I have fitted a pair of slim speakers for my GPS and am not aware of them, the lining has recesses ready for them.

I'm pleased with the C2 for road use but it's too heavy for any off-road - if I even think I might be going off-road I'll wear the TourX.

Great kit, bit noisy from hinges as was said above and from chinpiece vet when open. Benefits from Fog City for winter.
Keep meaning to put some filler in the hinge / release locks and see if it quitenes them. Trying to think of right material, maybe a bit of tape over them....brain hurts.....

I have a Schuberth Concept with autocom speakers in it.

First the helmet: I love the helmet, it fits my head perfectly, and build quality is excellent. I have a good deal of confidence in its ability to protect me in an accident (though no experience, thankfully). When I first bought the helmet, and before I fitted the autocom speakers, it was incredibly quiet, but it is starting to get a bit more noisy now, with the speakers in, and after nearly two years of daily commute plus long holidays.

The Autocom speakers: Are a real bugger to fit in the Schuberth. I contacted Autocom for advice, and they were really helpful, even offered to fit the speakers in my helmet if I popped in to see them.
They suggested I remove some of the foam from inside the helmet, which I didn't want to do because I was scared.
After fitting, I found the speakers quite tight, and they became too uncomfortable after a long ride.
I then removed the thin layer of foam between the liner and the hard foam, and that made a huge difference. My ears still suffer a little after wearing the helmet for several hours, but I also wear glasses, so room around the ears is at a premium. I should really press the speakers into the foam a little harder, to hold them in place, but haven't been bothered.

Good piece of kit, IMHO.

Much the same as others... great helmet, but it IS noisey. Excellent quality, and the flip-down sun visor is brill.

Today I laid my years old Concept [62/63] to rest and bought a C2 [62/63] for 330GBP from Crusader Leathers [01246 454921] in Chesterfield. They've a good stock of Schubeth lids and pulled my size/colour in within two days like they said they would.

The C2 is a closer fit than the Concept especially around the cheeks, throat and ears - presumably this is why it's so much quieter. Ventilation to the top of the head also appears to be much improved.

I experienced no discomfort at all during the 2.25hrs[90miles] it took to get home though I was slightly aware of the tighter fit. This tightness may ease or I'll get used to it but at the moment it doesn't look like a problem either way. The extra material/padding is only really noticeable when putting on or removing the helmet mainly because the ears sit in a recess.

The triangular piece of material under the face guard snags on the chin when shutting the helmet if it isn't held out of the way like Schubeth suggest. It tends to ride over the chin when opening the face guard. It's unnoticeable when the face guard is locked down.

If you want a much quieter Concept and you ain't got a chin like The Boss then the C2 is for you.

Russ.

There is a known problem with the C2. When the sun visor is down and you have the visor cracked open , the sun visor vibrates and makes an annoying noise. My one is back in Germany to get this fixed.

I am very happy with the helmet otherwise.

Better half and I have had a pair of Schuberth Concept helmets with Autocom for about 4 years now. Delighted with them (on a Pan European and an 1150RT), but now on a 1200GS, I find the wind noise unbearable without fitted earplugs. With the earplugs in I can't hear the Autocom. Sod's Law. I think I'll stick to earplugs and take my chances on not being able to hear what the ballast is talking about!

I run a C2 with Autocom headset and am very pleased with it. I had the problem of squashed ears with the Autocom speakers fitted, and not being too happy about attacking the polystyrene liner with a stanley knife myself, I took it along to Headset Services at Shoreham Airport, near Brighton, where they did it for me for about £25.

Headset Services also do a set of earplugs with built in speakers and a small boom microphone attached to one ear plug, all terminated with a standard Autocom connector. That comes in at around £120 if memory serves, but looks like a better solution than the standard Autocom speakers and boom. It means that you don't have to dismantle and modify your crash helmet. It also means that you don't have the Autocom sound feed fighting to be heard over the helmet noise through your foam ear plugs. It's also obviously easy to use with multiple different helmets.
