Scratched my metal panniers

Thanks :-)
I took the wires off last year to have the hubs powder coated and still haven't got around to doing the job. The shiny black alloys are doing fine

Soft alloy cases WILL get scratched probably more easily than the painted steel of a car body.
At least I wasn't running with empty cases. You bet I'm miffed but bikes are vulnerable. Sh1t happens.

I think someone has stolen your headlamp guard lens..... Or is it off for a damn good T cutting?

Is there a thread on polishing headlamp guard lenses? I think it could be useful !!!!!

Roger.

I read that with avid interest. I need the eyebrow because glare off the plastic is really bad. So being lazy it was easier to leave the brackets on the bike.

Soft cloth in the rubber gloved hand - spray hammerite silver on to cloth.
Wipe pannier (test are) with cloth and watch the light scratches vanish!
Polish up when it has dried.
Worth a try - careful not to contact any rubber or plastic parts though.

Chrome mirror wrap is the way to go. So shiny you can leave the SamBrown dayglo at home.

Bad day...

I trod in dog turd once, smearing it over my seat, onto the offside foot peg and... To top it all.. Sat in it.

My biker mate brotherhood bond companions sat around laughing, not least as I only discovered it two hours later. I also managed to get some onto my gloves when trying to wipe it off with one Wet Wipe and an old envelope, which only added to their mirth. Feck 'em.

Ha!

"I sat in the shit...
That's why they put me away..."

With apologies to Eccles.

I was having a bad day, but this has reminded me that in this world, some one, somewhere, is worse off than me!

£12 a year? It's worth double (possibly).

Fluff

Quite right, Mike.

Seems the poor number cruncher has more than hedges to look out for - apparently he bumps into many members, no....., er.... "owners" to. Some folks are accident prone.

Fluff.

I would never have metal panniers again on a bike as their shit. Dropped it once off road and it's dented and twisted.

2007 actually JB. On the way to Hograost with Sid and we decided it would be a good idea to do the 13 mile Shaftsbury BOAT fully loaded :D

I think if your going to fall with panniers on metal would be better surely a bit of bending pulling and maybe bashing is going to fix them snapped plastic cracked lids etc is harder to fix imho but if your going to rub hedges whilst reversing then you deserve to be stranded what a foolish thing to do

I wouldn't use metal panniers again. The ally paniers on my 2004 1150GSA fell apart at -20C, the spot welds holding top to bottom simply failed. The Touratwat panniers I originally fitted on my HPN bent and twisted after a gentle drop. Now would only use Andy Strapz expedition panniers, none better IMHO

TBH that PD is by far the better bike for crossing Africa than almost any tricked up 1200.

Quite! That's why my 1200GS stayed at home! Couldn't do this with a 1200 with a small roll of spanners in the middle of nowhere!
