Seat adjustment!

It say in the book not to have the seat adjusted so that the back and front are different. I.e. If the front is on its higher setting then so the rear should be. Trouble is I find the seat tilts me uncomfortably forward unless the front is on the high seething and the rear on the low setting. I don,t want to fork out on new seats before anyone suggests it! Is this normal having a front tilt? THanks.

Me too, no problem at all having the front higher than the rear.

In my 1250GSA manual (page 98) it says . . .

• 
  If the seat angle needs to be adjusted:
  Position the front and rear height adjustment differently.

but the LC bikes seat set up is totally different

on air cooled bikes sometimes you'll struggle to get the seat on and or break the clips on the frame if you go for exotic ideas.... whilst you can have a fight and try diff positions for the front and back of riders seat, its NOT supposed to be used like that - its meant to do both high or both low

Mine has been high at the front, low at the rear since I asked a similar question about 10 years ago. The answer then, as now, is yes, on a 1200 GS Hexhead it is perfectly feasible to have the seat set up thus.

Likewise, High Front and Low Rear with no Issues on either of the SC's I've had....

The fact its so badly designed you can mistreat it and mount it without following the instructions does not mean its a design feature or a good idea

"The front seat can work loose and wobble if the two seat rods are not in the same position…" in fact that rings a bell, one way round it does exactly that
"Always be sure to install both seat rods in the same position"

I DID read your Post BUT, I neither Struggle nor Fight with my Seat to run it as has been described.
It slots in easily and stays in place without offering to slip out of Alignment, and has done so over many thousands of miles over the two Bikes.
As with many things in Life, there are often more ways than "The Given One" to successfully carry out an Operation.

I've used both my standard seat and my replacement seat for 100.000 miles now with the front high and rear low. Never been a problem. Tbh I can't see what mounting you could break by having it in this position.

52537706274 number 2 and they are 20 quid each (same part from 2004 to 2012) - very common problem - Wunderlich make add-ons to both allow the stupid seat to be fitted without 45 minutes of hell and or reduce the likely hood these break

Did 135 miles today in nasty conditions, floods, bit off-road, motorway, town etc. What a great bike, so easy to ride, they should make beginners bikes like this, U turns are like push bike stuff. Absolutely love it. Because it is easy, manoeverable, comfy, and er slowish it makes it a really safe bike to ride especially with the up right position being able to see over cars etc. They are just easy fun . Brings back the joy of motorbiking. Just got to get used to the boxer engine... as opposed to in line fours.

As you said it's really surprising how manoeuvrable these bikes are despite their size. And the lazy engine is great. Mine rarely goes over 5,000 rpm. Doesn't need to be revved to get a shift on.

10 years on old GS and the seat has always been high front, low back - this will do no harm. Struggling to get seat on is down to crap design and nothing to do with seat height

Could that be referring to the left and right sides of the seat, not the front and back.

Anyway, i'd just do whatever needs to be done to suit the rider, it's not the handbook that has to ride the bike.

Could that be referring to the left and right sides of the seat, not the front and back.

Anyway, i'd just do whatever needs to be done to suit the rider, it's not the handbook that has to ride the bike.

Rykers then Newlands Corner this morning, lots of GS's around here... doesn't get much better with the family tied up with in laws so I can get out. Clocking up the miles, will be 500 in four days, getting the hang of the engine...love it.
