Seat comfort. My ass hurts

Start with a cheap sheepskin and see how you get on. If it doesn't work well enough, then splash out on an Airhawk. I rode with a sheepskin/Airhawk combo for 8000 miles and found the sheepskin was good enough on it's own so folded the airhawk up and left it in the pannier:thumb

Try a high seat. Thicker padding. I've never looked back since fitting it, & more space for long legs too.

I had a similar question last year. Have a look at the following thread - all sorts of advice from fellow tossers: http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=232807

I have a Corbin seat (waste of money) but based on advice, set the front on the highest setting and the rear on the lowest setting. (Try this with your standard seat before blowing a pile - of cash, I mean) This has made noticeable difference and the addition of an Airhawk some more difference. Still not an armchair but definately better.

I haven't had a single problem since getting the sargent seat , i just couldn't make the airhawk work for me , tried it every way possible .

Had an Archer seat mod done on my 800 Vtec. Not good enough no matter how cheap.

Went the AirHawk route at first with the GS. Yes, an improvement over sitting on the stock seat, but wasn't totally happy. Plus, you can't just leave it on the bike if you head off for a walk or into an eatery etc.

Finally bought a Sargent and it was the dogs do-daaas. Yes, it cost quite a bit, but I wish I'd got one two years earlier as I know I'd have enjoyed riding the bike even more. Then there's the resale value when it came time to let the GS go. So in the long term, it wasn't that expensive.

Be brave and stay with it, it will sort itself out given time. Bit like a bicycle:rob

5 and a half years on a 2004 says it won't. 2010 model and I bought a Sargent only 4 months in, highly recommend it. I did 400 miles yesterday and although my arse started to ache just before I got home, I wouldn't have got half way with fidgeting like a four year old at the cinema.

I had numb bum for ages and tried different seats and just about everything. My solution is
Raise seat high in front and low back
Airhawk
Sheepskin
I modified the airhawk by extending the fill/deflate hose out from under the sheep skin so I can adjust it whenever I like without removing the sheepskin

I was getting numb after 100 miles on 2010 GS. bought a sheepskin cover for £80 and problem solved - 350 miles - no numb bum. can take it on and off in seconds and keep to one side for longer days in the saddle. have also gone for high front and low back which has helped with some lower back pain. tried this when i first got bike but then not happy with getting secure footing. with experience much more confident coming to rest at a slight lean and getting foot down.

Hi there,
Is it just a regular sheepskin or anything special?
My seat has done 100,000km (not under me) so maybe it is a bit collapsed? I think the newer seats are a different shape?

My bike is a 2004 GS and I swapped seats with a mate who has a 2010 Adventure and it raised me at least an inch, maybe more, and was much harder.

stadium seat

By putman.basically a blue blow up pillow that can be used as a seat or pillow off the bike.Put 2 bits of elastic in place of the poppers and they fit on the seats in seconds.used them on europe tour and a 1000 miles in 5 days around ireland fanrastic oh they cost about 7 pounds delivered so if they deflate or break you dont mind buying a new one.still on my first after a year

I had the same problem but found that altering the height of the seat front and rear solved the problem.

If you adjust the front bar so that it is seated in the bottom recess (highest setting) and the rear the opposite way round, it tilts the seat slightly and transforms the comfort factor!
