Planning a trip to France starting out the last weekend of May. Its going to be a trip of 2 halves, and unfortunately a little rushed.
The trip down we want to be simple and easy... Taking 2 days to get down to Grenoble, and the last day a bit shorter as we head down the Route Napolean to a village near Frejus.. The reason we're going is to ride down there with my father on his bike which he is moving to their retirement home in (lucky bugger). My mum won't let him go on his own !!

Anyways the plan is to take 4 days to get back up to the tunnel, coming through the Alps... and there's my problem.. Which feckin way !!
I'm seeing a few obstacle. Firstly will the roads still have snow on them ?? I know its weather dependent, but is there a typical altitude limit I should be keeping below in order to increase the possibility of no turning round ??
Accommodation I'm not too worried about, either camping or hotels... Its not very often you get to the Alps so not too worried if we have to fork out for hotels. Quite happy doing over 350 mile days over here, but I think the slower pace in the Alps is going to be hard work, so setting a daily limit of 200 miles while in the hills...
My general idea is to head up to Briancon the first day, then onto Geneva the second day. Then 2 days back up from Geneva to Le Tunnel....
Any advice greatly appreciated !!
