Wanted Seiko Advice Please

Seiko Prospex Solar Diver’s In Blue-Red-Blue​

I don’t know much about watches so I thought I’d ask the GSer experts.
I like the look of the above Seiko, but can anyone advise what to might be best to go for please, as I’m sure there may be other similar looking Seiko models. It won’t be used for diving.

Depends what you want, and what to spend. There should be similar with automatic movement (the Padi, different shape though) if that is something that you would prefer, a bit more expensive.
There will be also, way cheaper, the 5 series pepsi.

I have one solar Seiko (Arnie Safari) and really liking it. Most of my other watches are automatic/mechanical and I sometimes enjoy just grabbing a watch and wearing it without having to set the time/date. I also like the "dance" it does when it comes up from sleep

Buy the one that You like.Asking which is the best will just be their opinion,everyone has one of those!.....The Padi for sale on here at £250 is a nice watch and good price.

I have one solar Seiko (Arnie Safari) and really liking it.

Love the watch but is massive. Unless you have the wrist of a gorilla Blue-Red is manageable at 41mm

Size and hair are on point



It's smaller than it seems, not massively larger of the classic SK007 for example.
But I do normally wear smaller/thinner watches (not that I have that many). Somehow always really liked this one and found it used and purchased it some time ago.
It has to be one of the largest watches I have, alongside two older Suuntos. One of which is the Traverse, that I bought as a beater watch for when offroading... then realised it was too bulky to comfortably wear under bike gloves

Not a diver but I have just bought this.

I am a confirmed Omega fan boy and have several but the quality of the seiko Prospex stuff at the moment is bang on, actually I would say almost equal, for considerably less cash. Seiko straps are a bit iffy ( or it was for this but a decent strap like the one I have on it is but a small price

I know I'm biased but I do think Seiko's SKX007 is an absolute classic dive watch.

I bought this 15 years ago to take the weight off an Omega Seamaster that was getting knocked to bits at work. The Seamaster is long gone but I still wear this daily.

Quite a solid watch, built like a tank. I love Seiko, I own quite a few.

Mines a keeper (as is my 6105-8110 “Willard” and my Gene Kranz).

It’s a slippery slope kinda like eating Pringles, once you pop you can’t stop.




I’ve just seen the Naomi Uemura tribute today, if only I had a spare £2600 to spend.

It’s been a long time coming, but Seiko’s are the new ‘Black’ in watches right across their range nowadays, and superb value IMO..

And there is the 009 too red-blue!



Again, it's a lot about preferences.
Going back to OP's question, I think the Prospex has a slight more size or "presence" over an SK. Even though I like my solar, I would personally prefer automatic.
But, within Seiko's range, plenty of choice and price points and movements Happy shopping.

I have an SK that used to be my daily wearer. It currently gains a minute a day, and the two repairers I've spoken to say that a repair would cost more than it's worth. Not sure what to do with it, but it's been a great watch.

Seiko have an official UK repair centre in Maidenhead and do "menu" pricing for the whole range of Seiko watches. They are surprisingly reasonable.

A lot of love here for the SKX007 - My daily, bought new early 2020 and fitted with a Strapcode Oyster from day one as I hate those jingle-jangle Jubilee bracelets.

From the off the watch never ran anywhere near to spec'. It was returned to Seiko UK in Maidenhead THREE BLOODY TIMES before it ran anywhere near to acceptable - I'm guessing that they simply replaced the 7S26 movement on it's third return.

It always ran slightly slow UNTIL I visited Bulgaria a couple of years ago.....now it runs a bit fast...

The only thing that I don't like is the Hardlex crystal. I will get it changed to a sapphire when I get round to it.
