Just bought, fitted, and removed to return my 50S. Flaky / non existent voice control, fiddly buttons, and seems flimsy. Can any one recommend a better Mesh system for us to use please, or are they all crap?

Thanks

30K ?

Ive had two 50's out of the box faulty , both went back

The 30k has been replaced once under warranty - no quibbling

Would i have a 50 again ... not unless there were no 30's left

looking at alternative manufacturers I think - two faulty in the same box leaves me with little confidence in Sena now...

I have a Sena Impusle helmet which has the 50s equivalent kit fitted within. It works fine and clearly communicates with others using the SENA +mesh adapter, as well as other SENA mesh enabled models. (30k and Spider) Perhaps you’ve been unlucky

Hi yes perhaps. It was a twin pack we bought. For both units to have issues very unlucky :(

I also bought a dual 50S pack just after they first cane out. 1st update bricked it completely so they went back, and I returned to using my old 10R’s.

UCOMM-16. Based on the 50s but imho better and ....oh and waterproof, cheaper and you have a choice of two battery capacities (optional larger battery pack available). Mine has been faultless.

Thanks - do the voice commands work ok?

They're a bit hit and miss sometimes but overall are more reliable than those on my Sena SRL MESH system. I've used them to accept and make calls, to turn the radio on and off, and it works, although you sometimes have to repeat a command.

I am tempted with this, but can't decide between this one and the Cardo Edge system...

I'm tempted too but can't decide between this and the SC2 to fit to my Schuberth C5

I think they're all much of a muchness tbh. What sold it for me, coming from an older Cardo spirit system was how good and clear (and loud!) the audio was on the U-Comm unit, the fact that compared with others, it was nice and slim, having a separate battery pack, and the fact that you could buy a much larger capacity battery which takes literally seconds to swap over. That and it was waterproof. Sena stuff is overpriced I think. I was lucky and got a good deal on an SRL MESH system for my Shoei lid, but the UCOMM was still cheaper at full RRP than the discounted Sena system, dead easy to fit onto most lids and easier in practice to use as the buttons are more useable even with gloved hands. They've put more thought into the design. It does rely on having a slot at the back of the helmet between the liner and outer shell fort he battery, but the standard battery is slender enough to slot inside the space on most lids. I use my UCOMM on a Shark full face lid and it's spot on with that one. The only thing to check is that the speakers will fit in the cut outs on your lid.

I changed from Sena 50's to Cardo Packtalk Edge and would never go back - very pleased (I now also use in ear monitors which I couldn't do with my old Sena)

Well, mostly because another of our riding chums has an inbuilt Sena, we have gone down the U Comm 16 route, based on information here, and other web reviews.
Fingers crossed 👍

I had a longish ride out the other day, with a mate who was also using the same UComm system, bought because he liked the thin profile of the U-Comm 16 and because it was using Mesh 2.0. I lost sight of him for a while and asked "where have you got to? Wrong turn somehwhere?". Turned out he wasn't that far short of a mile behind yet comms were crystal clear on MESH and unlike bluetooth, we didn't have a single drop out in hours of riding. Very impressed. His replaced his problematical Sena 10U system, which worked for about 12 months then just stopped pairing with the handlebar remote, no-matter how he tried to sort it. Once you try MESH, you won't want to go back to Bluetooth.

Just finished fitting the 16 to my helmet.
All seems good bar no voice commands, and seems to trigger instant music when starting up - which I have to switch off each time.
Bit stumped on totally no voice control though...

I had similar when I bought mine until I re-read the destructions and followed the set up and pairing procedures. Took several goes but got it all working. If you push and hold the phone symbol (back) button for 3 seconds, that should stop the radio. Turn unit off, reboot and all should be normal. If not, I'd return for an exchange unit. For voice commands you have to start with "Hey Interphone" followed by the command you want.

If you have downloaded the app, you may find there's a few settings out or need changing in the app. To enable it after downloading, first switch the unit on, then open the app and go to settings, and just check voice commands are active.

Can you use earbuds (3.5mm jack) with the Ucomm?
