Is the 6000 service due at 6000 or 6000 after the 600 service ?

how many 6's and 0's can you get in a sentence ?
 
There's a lot of nonsense talked around this one.
If you have the 600 mile service done at 600 miles on the clock, then the next mileage related service is due at 6,600 miles on the clock; not 6,000 miles on the clock; so yes, 6000 miles after the 600 service, not 6000 miles in total.

Thanks, I'll be trying Motorrad Central in Dalkieth nr Edinburgh where I bought the bike from.
I've seen they are very good, I received good service when I bought it, much better than my local (car) dealer, who didn't seem bothered if he sold a new bike or not.

Always was a lot of nonsense about this, for one thing 6000 miles is only the nearest mile equivalent for 10000 kms. The service intervals would have been set in kms so should you have it services at 6200 miles?

And 10,000 kms is just a figure, nothing magic about it, could have be 11,234 kms, but a round figure is easier to remember

Well said that man. Sure some of the anal retentives on here would trailer the bike to the dealer with the clock saying EXACTLY 6000 miles.

I was told that there are different items for service at both 6000 and annual intervals - especially at the end of the first year - so I got both lots done at once as they came almost together. Don't ask me what they were (technical abilities of a langoustine here :blast) - I do remember something about some fluid or other needing changing after a year, and others after 12 months. (Now I AM winding you up! :D)

They have both been doing it for a long time

It's not difficult.
The bike's due a service at 6,600 miles or after 12 months, if you don't do the 6,600 miles.
Once you've had the service done, at for argument's sake, 3,728 miles she's not then due another service until either 9,728 miles or 12 months later - whichever is the sooner.

At least that's how it's always been explained to me by various BMW dealers (4 actually) over all the years I've owned 12RT's, never having done 6,000 miles in any year.

So the dealers think you should get your bike serviced MORE often ?
That's astonishing.

I used to write service schedules for everything from diesel engines to jet engines. Believe me, it's not an exact science.

But hey it's your bike.

Not quite as clear cut as one might think after all.
Rainbow and Balderstones insist it MUST be done annually AND at 6,000, 12,000, 18,000 miles etc.
Astles and Pidcocks are equally adamant the Rainbow and Balderstones have got it wrong. Their view is that the bike doesn't need another service until it's either done an ADDITIONAL 6,000 miles since the last service or 12 months later, whichever is sooner.

Pidcocks and Astles both said that they put the bike's details into BMW Motorrad's system, that tells them what work to carry out and once they confirm that work has been done BMW Motorrad's system tells them when the bike needs it's next service and the 'service warning' light on the bike is programmed accordingly.

To be fair to Balderstone's they said they would speak to the customer if he was just getting an annual service done and discuss whether it would be appropriate to carry out a 6,000 mile service at the same time depending on projected usage.

I do find it bizarre that 4 dealers could be so adamant over such differing views relating to a relatively basic question.
