Hey All,

Clocked up 5500 miles on my GS since buying it in December with 600 miles on the clock and the first service just completed. I was hoping to maybe get it serviced this weekend in anticipation of 2 trips to France in June, but I didn't get my finger out in time and now all the dealers are shut as it's Bank Holiday.

Next weekend is hopefully gonna be a lap of Snowdonia, so it's utterly conceivable that I'm not going to get the chance to have her serviced until the odometer is around 6500. Question is, will this be frowned upon in terms of warranty?

To my mind I should be OK until 6600 miles since the interval is 6000 and not 5400, but I don't like being in a position where it comes down to splitting hairs over a couple of hundred miles. For what it's worth she's not used a drop of oil or missed a beat since I've owned 'er, so I don't expect anything to seize or fall off if I go a couple of miles over.

But what's the general consensus with warranties et al?

No, they don't mind the odometer reading being within 10% of the recommended service interval, so it won't cause any problems for you.

Been a couple of thousand miles past and never had bother with warranty work..

Keep it less than a 1000 over and you're fine.

You presumably have a warranty. I bought my GS new, my S s/h, both sets of documentation explicitly stated mileage/time excesses that would be considered within limits.

Wot no oil at all!

Could be. My '07 seems to be using hardly any in comparison with my old '04 bike. It looks like the change from 10W-40 to 20W-50 has made quite a difference.

Cheers for the advice!

He everybody, thanks for all the replies!

Seems like I should be OK if I go a couple of miles over then. It's only a quick lap of Snowdonia anyway, so I can't see it being more than 300 miles per day over a regular weekend.

And yes, not a drop of oil used, which is more than I can say for my Bandit. ;)

I checked the rider's manual and it mentions nothing of interval tolerances other to say that a service is due every 10,000km. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Booked her in now, but the earliest my dealer could fit me in was the end of May! If I'd known there was that much waiting time I'd have made the appointment weeks ago ...

I'm guessing they're all busy doing the brake recall and 'start of the season' stuff.

Make sure you mention the brake recall to them (I'm guessing you've an 07GS/GSA?) - I didn't and they didn't automatically assume the work needed doing, so it wasn't booked into for that. But a quick chat sorted it all out.

Just a thought, like......
