I've recently bought a 1250GSA, it came with a 3 year service pack included.. Now, the blurb says that you can't have it serviced unless the indicator is showing on the dash. If I'm going away on say a 3000 mile tour, surely I don't have to have a service "mid tour" in a foreign land ? Sounds like a right "Faff", especially as the next service will be a valve clearance check etc ?
Has anyone had this issue, and what was your experience with it ?
Many Thanks

I'd pop into your local dealer and see what the service manager suggests.

I was over by 1

I was over by 1k when I returned from tour. No dramas but they did align the next service date and mileage to align with the service recommendation.

I did mention it to the sales manager but he said it would have to be serviced abroad which I thought was a little "weird"......

That's very weird. I had a similar thing on my last GS and Sycamore Peterborough said that was OK and they'd do it when I got back & thanked me for mentioning it.

Don't talk to the Sales Manager about service related issues. In my experience sales department staff (unless they have migrated from the service department ) don't know shit from sticky toffee pudding when it comes to service related matters :thumby:

Like anyone would do that.

I looked into a service pack when I bought my GSA and opted against it for the very reason the OP has found. I could not get my bike serviced early with a trip around the corner that would exceed service due mileage. I had two service packs on new Hondas that were just 3 or 4 services included. No minimum mileage requirement.
I’ve always been twitchy about exceeding the service due, it’s ok for the dealership to say it’ll be fine, what happens if there is an issue. I’d rather not get into that.

Just a thought - perhaps find someone with a GS-911 or Motoscan and turn the indicator on?

I got the service pack on my new xr1000 saved a grand on the 4 services so a no brainer for me

Just a thought.
If you change the date to a few weeks before the service is due on your bike’s clock.
Will it bring on the service light?
