do you think £298 is a good price for a 6000 mile service on a 1200gsa,,,2011 model....didn't even change the oil filter......have I been done???

This is what allen Jeffries charged me last month.....ON CLEANING THE BIKE LAST WEEK I NOTICED THAT THE OIL FILTER AND BELLY PLAT HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED........

It's a bit late now but why didn't you ask the price beforehand?

As for charging for work not done - scandalarse. I see from your other thread that you did mark the filter. As a minimum I'd be expecting them to collect your bike, leave you a courtesy, do everything they're already charged you for, apologise and offer something to make up for them apparently ripping you off. Why should you have to go back again using your fuel and time for something they've already charged you for?

As for the price, if (big if in the circumstances) they had done what they should have done, you haven't a leg to stand on if you didn't get a price first. £300 seems to be about the going rate for main dealer rates. Allan J seem to have a reasonable reputation on here so hopefully it's an oversight rather than just taking the pi55, but you're entitled to feel pretty outraged imho. Go get em. tiger.

If when you say belly plate you mean the bash plate then they can't have drained the oil either! ( or am I wrong?)

If they charged you for that and itemised it then that is fraud plain and simple. However as others have said give them a chance to make amends as it could be a lazy mechanic and not the dealers fault completely.

I wonder what BMW would say if you made a claim under warranty and told them the filter wasn't changed at service ???? oh that doesnt matter at sir !!!! I bloody bet !!! did they itemise a filter on your bill ??????

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been on this site for a long time. However whilst having a spare 5 I thought I'd take a look to see if anything was new. Guess what ... No. It's still full of people whinging about dealer services and prices.
As per the norm half the information will have been supplied hence the reason why the anti dealer vultures are currently circling.
Let's take a look at some hard facts here.
I) bike is 2011 and has done 6k
2) That's a 3 year old bike in my book.
3) According to the BMW CBS (condition based servicing ) that bike would require oil and filter ,gearbox and brake fluid.
4) No mention of when it was last serviced. Could have been a few months ago which is why the oil and filter possibly weren't changed but the other items were dueI7 on a time related basis.
5) axle oil was that changed when the oil and filter were done - we don't know - half the information supplied again
6) Jeffries are a business not a charity. To have that type of a facility costs
7) Theres a distinct possibility this bike may have an BMW insured warranty policy on it. The bike has to be serviced at a BMW dealer for this to be honoured. I'm sure AJ will have checked in to what the bike had done at it's last service and serviced it accordingly

The bike DOES NOT need to be serviced at a BMW dealership to comply with warranty !!!!!! It does however need to be serviced as per the manufacturers schedule.

Where do you get the notion that it HAS to be serviced at BMW ???????

I could never get jefferies or my current local dealer to commit to a price, always said "depends on what needs doing, like brake fluid etc" hence I now service mine myself. Car dealers have fixed price servicing these days, nice if the bike industry followed.

I think it does matter if you choose to extend the BMW Warranty after year two. In the T & C's as they say.

There is an annual service which changes oils and fluids.

There is also a mileage related service which is at 6k 12k 18k etc

It's not uncommon to combine them but if the annual was recent the 6k may exclude those items.

I'm not trying to defend AJ at all cost but it's possible that is what has happened here or there has been some mis-communication.

In the first instance politely ask the dealer for an explanation.

The notion that you must have a bike serviced by the main dealer was removed by European law some years ago. Prior to that ,dealers were a law to themselves and their prices reflected it. Its all about a fair market place.

I repeat - you do NOT have to use a main dealer for servicing for either in warranty ,out of warranty or a just in case warranty

Unless of course it is an insurance-based contract between you and the warranty provider, in which case it will depend on the contract terms.

You've been BM'd

P.S. Was there an extra charge for printing off the invoice and provision of a seat whilst you waited. Rumour has it that BMW have employed Ryan as consultant

I was quoted £350 for a 6000mls service at my local BM dealer in Tunbridge Wells
