Serviced or not serviced !

Looks like a workshop in a complete mess to me!! As you live in Derbyshire, as do I, and went local you need to name and shame! I think I can guess as I have just bought my GS from a local dealer and was less than impressed with its presentation and had to make a complaint regarding the fact that the brakes had not even been checked prior to my collecting it. There was about 1 mm on the rear pads on a 4 month old bike, and all the calipers were dry and corroded inside. The bike had a 6000 mile service, allegedly, as well as a PDI inspection, and the wheels had been off for new tyres, so plenty of opportunity to spot the pad wear. I had a meeting with the general manager, amongst others, and they appeared genuinely horrified, but if this is the same place there's clearly a major problem and I will avoid them in future.

I can also guess which dealer, i had issues when i collected my bike, only minor issues but lets just say hell will freeze before I will purchase a bike from them again! have used other bmw dealers and received better service. the bottom line is bikes are flying out the door so they will skimp and cut corners.

No update - :nenau I just hope it's a one off as they are servicing my bike in the morning -

and you still bought it....nothing changes...

Update:

I wont go into to much detail, I paid em a visit, the FD oil should have been changed it wasn't they have apologised, gave me various options, they'll collect bike etc needless to say i opted for an alternative option this being what i wanted, I'm happy with that.

Only disappointment i have is the fact i asked the MD to call me, and it was left to the man on the service desk to resolve with myself.

I'd strongly advise anyone whom has not had the fd oil changed on the first service to change it or request it be done when you book your bike in, because the oil i took out was shitty, contaminated, had a lot of swalf build up in the fd sump plug.

On the fd there are 2 washers 2 replace and you fill with castrol 80/90 gear oil (dealer purchase) and put 180ml in.

The rest is history ...

Good advice thanks, hadn't even thought of looking at it, but will now!

What was the point of this thread? You ( @OP) don't say where you had bad service and have now been satisfied by continued bad service in that the MD couldn't be arsed to talk to you

The point of the thread was to highlight that my fd went unserviced even tho it should have been serviced and so should every other wc @ 600 miles so really its to highlight and hopefully keep you on your toes as to what to expect a service should consist of or what should be done, I'm sure you yourself may even think to ask your dealer to service the fd as per the bmw schedule or even just to service after all 180ml and 2 washers won't break the bank and your fd will thank you for it, or maybe I've highlighted the fact that the oil needs changing regardless, and you are correct i was a little disappointed that the md could not take 5mins out of his time to talk to me but neither did i go back to the dealer guns blazing, i did it in a very professional manner and the result I'm happy with .

The dealership I'm sure you have worked it out several bods have already have :blast

Shit.. Just assumed mine got changed at service, better dig paperwork out & have a mosey..

Phil, it takes a few mins to drop the oil on the fd, if its clean stick it back in if not buy a litre of gear oil (that's 5 oil changes) and change it yourself at regular intervals.

I sometimes wonder if they know what they are talking about. I rang them and asked about the specified engine oil that BMW were putting in the GSA at the time, wanted to know if I could use the Power 1 but a slightly different viscosity as recommended. She said, no. When I told her the handbook gave a variety of viscosities depending on temperature she said she had no idea she just referred to the Castrol web site. Hey, and since that date they have now changed the BMW recommended viscosity at dealers anyway. So what BMW CS say is not always right anyway, it depends who answers the phone.

I am glad I do my own servicing, as I have said before it saves money, time and it is done properly.

I wonder how many warranty repairs are service related anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if most are either corrosion issues, or actual manufacturer faults.

Ive been servicing my own bikes for years and I am either lucky or have been doing it correcetly as ive never had a problem, oh and I have also had some warranty work done on my old 2013 GS with no question. I have just picked up my 2014 GSA and will be servicing that as well.

Also my old bike was brought off me by a Dealer and no issues with me doing the servicing came in to it.

Did you get the person who told you this was OK to put it in writing?

Have you ever had to make a warranty claim on a bike that you have solely serviced?

I service mine using genuine parts the dealer sells me those parts and assures me there will be no issues with warranty, fact I did then have some warranty work done no problem. I have just picked up my new GSA and will be servicing that as well.

Good and sensible result. The OP realises something isn't right so gets it sorted to his satisfaction. No hissy fitting, no crying and toys out of the pram, no naming and shaming and no fuelling panic amongst biker mates.

Maybe a few more people could take this as an example of how to resolve an issue without resorting to the usual bollox;)

Was it a servicing related warranty claim?

Im gonna check my final drive oil. Can someone confirm which oil is required. Where i can get said oil . What quantity of oil required? Oh. And anything unusual about the oil change or is it fairly straightforward.... thanks.

There are dozens of threads and youtube videos on how to go about this. It's even easier with current models. Go on - get your hands dirty. You'll feel like a real biker. :beerjug:

Castrol (synax i think its called) 80/90 gear buy it from your dealer and you need 2 washers for the 2 plugs, and you fill the fd with 180 ml of the gear oil.

the dealership should have been ashamed. if the owner had not checked , it would just have been missed
