How's it going all.

I'm having a problem with my brakes - its an intermittent problem. After start up the ABS light remains flashing and the servos are inoperative. Basically the brake level comes back to almost the throttle grip and there is a serious reduction in braking ability.

The problem occurs on and off, but does clear either after a couple of restarts or after about a kilometer of riding.

I've checked the fluid level, hand guard fouling, battery, etc but no joy.

Anyone got any ideas.

sounds similar to one of my problem times. Turned out to be the clutch microswitch strangely enough, that had an intermittent fault. Can only suggest as a temp move you detatch each microswitch (clutch, brake, sidestand) and give them a squirt of Contact Cleaner or isoprop - they do not seem to be an easy assemble part and so likely to be a replacement when the fault fully develops.
Oh and whilst you have the Contact Cleaner out, give a quick squirt into the connectors where the switch links into the main harness too, will do no harm at this stage, and may keep you running a little longer.

Did you remove the fuel tank and check the fluid level within the Servo pump itself, or did you just the handlebar reservoir ??

When BMW work mine out I might be able to shed some light. There had it for 4 weeks now and it has played up when they were riging it. Checked the fault log and it said there is no faults when the brake servo are not working :nenau. My brake falure can be on and still have brake servo's :nenau. But that is fun when you are about to stop and they are not working. Red and orange flashing warning triangle :nenau and no speedo :nenau. This started with putting a non BMW battery in it.

Duffy's have just diagnosed the problem with my bike - the ABS controlled is shot. €2,500 estimated repair bill. I'm afraid this may be the last straw as I can't see myself paying out on yet another GS bill.

Why not strip the abs system off the bike, the rear hose can be reused and the brake switches need changing as well, not a huge expense, its been done by others on this forum, and is my plan if my controller packs up :beerjug:

I have seen a post before from MOTOTECH where he has re-plumbed ABS bikes to remove the servo and leave conventional braking without servo or ABS. Might be worth a PM to get a price for this.

Does anyone elses 1200 GS make an annoying whistling noise every time you apply the brake?..even when stationary, so it is not brake squeal...
